Concise description:
  • :mrmoody: smiley available for forum posts.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Cuz there might just be a time when you can use a blue guy with a cup o joe.

there was already discussion over stuff built about MrMoody. I believe the official decision was to leave the people to choose avatars to honour him.

No, I'm referring to the smiley you can use in Live Chat. Wouldn't it be fairly easy to allow that to be used in the forums?

I would imagine this would be easy to implement, no? There doesn't seem to be a downside here.

...? Hi, me again! Can I get a ruling from a mod? This has to be easy to implement, since you already have the smiley in Live Chat...

They brought this into Live Chat because he spent a lot of time there. He didn't exactly post in the forums, so I really don't see why they should implement this into the forums.

Why not? It's not like it'd be hard to do.

Who only have a tribute to him? It's not like people want to be reminded exactly everywhere they go.

That's cynical thinking, TFO. Why can't we remember him fondly through his smiley?

If people want to remember him, they can go to where he was well known. In Live Chat.

Personally, I think using his avatar is a good way of remembering him on the forums. There are several people, myself included, who have taken it as theirs.

Now, as for the suggestion, I don't think we really need that smiley in the forums. We have it available in Live Chat, and a lot of users have chosen to don his avatar respectfully in remembrance.

What is this emoticon supposed to be expressing?

Is Mr. Moody giving offering us a cup of coffee?
Is he simply holding it?
Is he taunting us with it and laughing at us, because he has coffee and we don't?

I would like to know what it means, so I can know in what circumstances I should use it. Thanx in advance.

I thought it appropriate to have an icon for moody. A moderator agreed. We thought about it and realized, we already had a dancing icon, plus, shrinking the image made it a bit hard to distinguish. Instead, we thought, "coffee." Initially I made it non-animated but t-o-m kindly fixed that for us.

What it represents:
  • Moody often hosted.. especially chat, but not just chat. Offering coffee is a sociable thing to do. For those who prefer, it's alcohol, and you see fumes rather than steam rising from the cup.
  • Moody drank coffee.
  • Moody liked to taunt and laugh.
  • Lifting a cup is a way to toast, another way to express approval besides =D>
  • Lifting a cup to others, as well as to MrMoody himself.
  • Gave Lack a fast way to memorialize a popular volunteer who passed away, in a manner that is unlikely to ever be lost in the shuffle (unlike a forum thread).
  • Everyone keeps saying, "we'll never forget you," and a smiley is a way to do that.

Of course, for the latter, it seems TFO thinks he shouldn't be remembered around the forums,
TheForgivenOne wrote:It's not like people want to be reminded exactly everywhere they go.

( only on Live Chat because that happens to be where he moderated.)

If that's the case, I guess everyone with a "moody avatar" should take theirs down.. after all, TFO doesn't want to be reminded everywhere he goes.

Well, we know you all (okay, MANY) will eventually, replace that avatar put up as a memorial, with one that represents yourselves somehow (which is the purpose of the avatar.)

If you all do that, the purpose of a Moody smiley as a memorium becomes more clear.

But for arguments' sake, the argument is, "we don't really need one here." Well, I don't see that we really NEED :geek: or :ugeek:

We didn't really "need" a new smiley icon in Live Chat, either.. we thought it a cute way to remember the man we knew as MrMoody...and Lack agreed so rapidly that the icon got entered within a day. That "cute way to remember the man," fits here in forums as well.... hopefully Lack will agree and eventually enter the icon.

I sent the request as a modification to the eticket that established the icon in Chat.

Got response today:
