Dealing with deadbeats

Postby Halmir on Sun Sep 26, 2010 6:08 am

Concise description:
  • Try to encourage those new players who register on the site, join a few games then are never seen again, to take turns by sending them reminder emails.

Specifics/Details:
  • We've all had this type of player join our games. They sign up on the site then becuase they can't instantly take a turn just disappear and never bother to check in again. My sugg is that the system emails them notifications every time it's their go, plus a series of "you've missed your turn this time but you will still have 2 more before you're thrown out for deadbeating!" :)

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • I'm sure half of the problem is new kids expecting instant gratification, which is generally not what they will get upon registering unless they're very lucky to join a game nad have it start immediately. If we can slow them down to the speed of games on here, and nag them to take turns via email, I'd hope that at least some of them would become active members

It's already possible to have the site sent notifications by email when it's your turn in a casual game. I like the idea of having this option standard set to 'on' when you first join the site. However, I'm also opposed to sending out spam, so turning this of should definately remain possible for newer players.

+1
The site auto sets emails to notify you about games. But users need to have the option to disable it.

What is the point in foeing a player who'll never return? It won't stop the next new recruit who'll deadbeat from joining your game.

OP needs to change the title to his sug...not simply "dealing with deadbeats."
