New Map abilities

Postby Super Nova on Thu Sep 23, 2010 12:09 pm

I think that the abilities for maps could be a little bit more flavorful. What if by holding some territ, or maybe region, you get to do the equivalent of nuke a region of your choice? I had an idea for a map, but it had some aspects of game play that did not exist. This is one of them. Here is the link to the map. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=127418 If you think that implementing this or any of the other aspects shown there are good, please say so.

It sounds like you'd like an XML feature/action equivalent to Nuking---I.E. say in addition to the usual Assault (adjacent region actions) or Bombard (distant regions ranged actions), you'd like something something like a mix of Bombard/Assault---but instead of conducting rolls, you'd like the immediate result of an Action to be a Nuke troop reduction?

Or something like that?

That's general idea, although hopefully its only one of the new XML features that can be added. If not, it would still introduce some fun new concepts to game play and strategy. Although when someone implemented the nuking precautions would have to be taken in order to insure there aren't any stalemates caused by this.

Depends how strong these nukes are. How many spots on the board would you be able to nuke? Because it seems like if you get this spot, you're in a win position. Just nuke the biggest spot you can see. Plus it'd probably reveal everything in a fog of war game, which would be kinda... gah, can't think of a proper word/phrase to use.

Like a said, we would have to be careful with this one; it would have to be very difficult gain that ability, and very easy (killer neutrals?) to lose it. I'm not sure what you mean with the revealing the fog though.

Wouldn't this be the same as Bombard? Or if you hold this spot you want to be able to knock down any number of armies down to a neutral 1? That seems to be a little over powerful.

Not really. It's just the equivalent of a well placed nuke. You guys are worried it might be overly powerful; and I can see where you're coming from with that. However, it is possible to balance out the gameplay, most likely with killer neutrals.

Yeah, and it would still be overly powerful. You sneak in with a 2, and suddenly you get to nuke out a stack of say 20 or even more.

i dunno, could make for an interesting option. you surely wouldnt want a stack anywhere at all. the problem with not having a stack anywhere being that you can go anywhere lol. so I'm undecided if this suggestion has merit or not.
