babysitting & community

Postby darth emperor on Wed Sep 15, 2010 10:58 am

17. Can I let another player take a turn for me when I am away from the game?

You can, with the stipulation that the account babysitter is not your opponent in any current game. It is common courtesy to announce in game chat that another player will take your turn(s) during your absence. Babysitters should only do what is necessary to take the turn(s) and should not interact with the community, start or join new games (except for ongoing tournaments). Furthermore, you should only take another player's turn if they are in danger of missing a turn, not for the purpose of gaining a tactical advantage.

What's the limit of not interacting with the community?

Let's put an example:

You are in a tourney where you need to pm the TO every round, for x reason, like who you want to attack in that round. Now while being in that tournament I have to go and leave to the babysitter to play my games and... WOW the round finishes and the TO asks for the new attacks... could the babysitter send a pm sending the attack? Obviously the normal is that is forbiden, but cases like this is still considered a violation of the rules??

what you can do is you can ask one of the teammates who remain to do the writing and planning due to the absense of the one you are sitting for,
Alternativly you can go to your own account, pm the tourny organizer and then explain you are sitting for X and you wish the teamdraw to be.....

This is absolutely an unofficial, not CC-authorized response. I am speaking as a player, not as a moderator or member of TeamCC. I may be in the wrong here, I don't know.

I sat for Iron Maid who is also playing in that tourney. I responded on his account, telling danryan that it was jakewilliams sitting for him and saying what attacks I wanted. I did this so IM would have a record of what was done in his sent items and so danryan would see it coming from the correct player.

ditto on jakey's disclaimer

when joshyboy sits for me, i often leave him instructions (and warn teammates since joshy forgets to read game chat ). we haven't had a case yet where i was going to be away so long that joshy would need to contact a TO on my behalf, but I would probably handle it the way jakey outlined.

when i was nearing the end of my pregnancy, i Pmed the TOs of all my tourneys and gave them the heads up that I would be out suddenly and for an unknown amount of time. i let them know who would be in charge of my account so that everyone was on the same page. i also posted it in my profile so that it was common knowledge.

i guess clear communication is the main point. the rule is there so that know i shouldn't log in as Joshy and start posting stuff in GD like "Hi, I'm JoshyBoy, my username is silly and I don't read game chat."

Personally i feel this should be avoided if possible, however i have been reliably told that IF you are in an tournament for someone you babysit and that tournament requires you to pm the TO, then you may pm from the babysitters account but you MUST announce that you are sitting in every pm you sent out.

remember
these options also exist;
what you can do is you can ask one of the teammates who remain to do the writing and planning due to the absense of the one you are sitting for,
Alternativly you can go to your own account, pm the tourny organizer and then explain you are sitting for X and you wish the teamdraw to be.....

Because the PMs are necessary to keeping the player active in the tournament, they are on the same level as taking turns to keep the player active. Make sure to mention who the sitter is as well as the actual tournament participate. I'd also recommend the sitter to not be in that tournament as the PMs sent for each account could be in conflict with helping each player win the tournament.
