Solution: Resigned player is eliminated but his armies don't change color and he keeps his cards. Since he resigned he doesn't take any further turns, but his resources are available to be taken by any remaining player in the game. Maybe the player's name is lined-out in the roll call of active players in the game.

There's no benefit that accrues to the resigned player. He has just done everyone else in the game a favor by leaving, rather than staying and possibly missing turns, deadbeating, trying to suicide on one the other players, etc.

If it's felt that non-premium members would abuse the resign button so as to leave a losing game and start another one, make the resign button a perk of premium membership like the ability to start an unlimited number of games.

I await hearing what the alternatives to the resign button are. However, the card issue should not be an impediment to the resign button.

The reason a resign button would be good is for situations where someone has got you down to 1 or 2 countries, and then just stops attacking, making you wait until they take their next turn to beat you. Maybe you could limit it's use to when a person is down to a certain number of armies and/or after a certain number of turns.
