game chat v forum rules

Postby eddie2 on Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:41 am

Ok let have a talk about this. i do not understand it because of the following

game chat

ok cc is quite liberal when it comes 2 this you can say a lot more things than you can in the forums. you can flame and bait a player during a game to a certain amount

forum rules

ok these are quite strict and the reason we get this is because this is a family site. you cannot flame or bait at all

Why is it in this order because the youngsters on the site have 2 deal with all sorts of abuse in games. Which is why they are on this site 2 play. but the forum rules don't let you repeat half the stuff in the forums that only 3 percent of the site visit.

Forum is public, while game chat is kind of private conversation
The lowest rank: Question Mark
The lowest score: 1000
The lowest place on the scoreboard: don't remember

Standard answer has been, because the site doesn't want its mods having to monitor gamechats. Doesn't make much sense to me, considering some racist or homosexual comments reported from gamechats have resulted in disciplinary action...so why stuff that's not allowed in forums doesn't get mild disciplinary action if a player finds it offensive enough to report... again, I don't see consistency there. But, that's the pat response.

Disclaimer: This post and any future post of mine in this thread is my opinion and not to be misconstrued as CC's official stance on the topic. Also, I just woke up, so I'm just wearing jeans, so partial nudity alert.

Eddie, since you brought it up, can we flesh out your stance on this a bit?

How do you realistically feel the gamechats could be policed?

How many mods do you think it would take to read every gamechat of every active game every day?

Or are you talking about word censors in the gamechat?

Do you really want that?

Do you think the majority of CC would want that? I don't.

Aren't the "youngsters" themselves the ones dishing out the majority of the abuse? I don't see much abuse in my games, but my experience on Xbox live says that "youngsters" are the worst offenders. When there are no physical consequences for what they say, they all become the most badass pre-teens in the world.

Is that what this is really about? Is this really a CC vs. users' parents responsibility issue? If so, don't buy McDonalds coffee. It's hot.

How big of an issue is this really? In over 1800 games, I can recall less than 10 games where the gamechat crossed the line from trashtalk to offensive.

Why does it feel like you're asking a question, but I see no question mark? (<- See what I did there?)

master fererir what i am trying to ask is why are the forums so strict when only 3 percent of the site uses them. like you say the youngsters are the ones being abusive so why limit what the grown ups can say in the forums. you are taking it the opposite way 2 what i was thinking you are stating more policing for games i am thinking less policing of the forums.

But the forums aren't strict at all. You can say pretty much whatever you want, as long as you're not being a total dickhead.

Oh, well, in that case, my answer is that growing boys need lots of rules and vegetables to grow up to be big and strong.

But now I have to ask, how would less rules in the forums be of benefit?

this thread is mod edit mod edit

If someone goes too far and is reported in game chat, they are dealt with appropriately.
If someone goes too far and is reported in forum they are dealt with appropriately.

The definition of appropriately will always be up for grabs and re-translation.

Enjoy the ever changing game and grow with it.
