Tournament games with incorrect settings - what can be done?

Postby Commander62890 on Sun Aug 29, 2010 7:38 pm

We are in a rather unfortunate predicament.

Game 7546782, Game 7546788, Game 7546783, Game 7546786, and Game 7546787 are tournament games that were supposed to be doubles games. They were created as standard games instead, and none of us caught the mistake.

I DO NOT wish to play these games, but unfortunately, I am a little point-conscious right now, so deadbeating is a road I do not want to go down. Is there any way for these games to be deleted, or, at the very least, have the points reimbursed after the games are finished? I have heard of points being returned to players before, and I am wondering if it is possible in this case.

I am only a discussion mod so i dont really know. Standard procedure is that you have to play the games, and win/loose whatever comes.
The last batch of played games that were deleted were games played on a map not supposedly open to the public. Tournament games do not belong to such a class of mistakes, i think you have to either watch your invites and blame the tournament director. Since this is a Q&A psts i am going to suggest you try and take it up with management and write an e-ticket. That's the best way to handle this. Whatever the outcome, prod by a line when its all done, and good luck

personally I find invites useful but they do require vigilance.

Please only blame the Tournament Organizer, not the Directors. But even then, go easy on them. Mistakes do happen, especially when you have to make many games or have many tournaments going on. But no, the games can't be deleted nor can points be reimbursed.

In most contexts, "tournament director" means the same thing that "tournament organizer" means here on CC.

Organizers vs Directors...there is a quite difference! Organizers are regular users who run a Tournament. Directors are Team CC Volunteers in charge of the management of Tournaments.

He's meaning in the non-CC world. But yes, making sure you have the correct CC terminology is important because you don't want to go around accusing the wrong people! 8-)

Just to point out, the Original Poster accused no one.

To the OP: Play the games, of course; but also, pm the tournament organizer to set up new games for the tournament, and ask him to disregard these wrong-setting games when determining tournament winner(s). If you win these "wrong setting" games, it's extra points; if you lose them, think of them as any other game you might not win. (It rots to lose, but it happens to all of us.)

But I'm sure your tourney organizer would agree with the idea that only the settings specified in advance for the tournament round should count toward the tournament/medal, so will set up new games for you.

It's clear that this is not the issue here. OP isn't worried that the games will count for the tournament; OP just doesn't want to play games he didn't intend to join. His problem is that it's one thing to lose points in a game you intended to join, but another thing altogether to lose points in a game you didn't intend to join (the downside being that usually the games you don't intend to join are with settings, or are on maps, that you are not familiar with).

You and your teammate could form alliances in your games then kill each other last

I suppose...either way, it would be hard due to the restrictions of gameplay (no deploying on teammates, etc.)
