Should two people who are related or are friends have to announce this at the beginning of the game?

Family or friends in the same game.

THIS IS NOT MEANT AS A TROLLING SITE , PLEASE KEEP COMMENTS RELATED TO TOPIC.

It is 'not' a rule that a family member or friend announce their relationship at the beginning of the game. I play on regular occasion on the board game. When i play against someone new and with one of my friends I naturally want to favor my friends. I feel this is common amongst many people.

Situation #1,
3 player game, all 3 players are even in men and position, would you attack someone you don't know or a friend first?

Situation #2,
If a player starts to single out your friend in a game would you come to his aid more than you would a stranger?

Situation #3,
When you play a person many times you get a feel for how that person will react and how they will play (ie:aggresive/passive). Does this give a friend or family member an advantage in a game where noone else knows the players playing style?

I do not wish to start 'static' with the mods over this which is why I asked before posting. I do however feel that the rule should be changed.

Personally I treat my friends like anyone else unless some agreement was made upon.

Last night I played a 3 player game, one was a friend, the other not. The only time I favored my friend was to keep him in the game because I was trying to teach him how to play.

Had that not been the case he would have been eliminated just like any other player.

Show no partiality

To the extent that it amounts to a secret alliance, yes it should be announced.

If you're able to play impartially, then I guess it's OK. But then, why not announce it in the game chat anyway? If you're going to be impartial, what's the harm in letting other people know how impartial you're going to be? If they are aware of it and you're really impartial then who will have a problem with it? Personally, I wouldn't want to have to constantly be worried about being impartial so I would avoid the problem altogether:

If you really want to play with a partner (friend or relative) why not play the partner games (doubles)?
Cheers,

Most people on this site will do whatever it takes to win regardless of who they are playing but it would reassure me to know if my opponents happen to be related. Otherwise I might get suspicious

Situation 1 and 2 get the same answer from me. I would attack the one that gave me the better chance to win or survive.

Situation 3 playing someone often does give you an advantage if you pay attention to how they play, but I don't think it is an unfair advantage. Some people just don't pay any attention at all.

situation 1 and 2

im not sure there has to be a rule....some family members play a lot of singles and never have any problems....so if there is any favoritism, i think it can be handled individually though i always advise against it

myself, i wont play with my dad, or cdmilliner in singles because I think its too much to ask someone to trust that i wont favor her if im going to die anyways

i actually would be able to do it, but I cant expect a stranger to accept that, i just dont think its fair...

situation 3
but i know so many people in here now....im theoretically in a similar situation in every game...but I only try to win....ive even had doubles partners accuse me of attacking them too much....if i start to favor a player in games, quite frankly the other players will know it. In a singles game you have no choice...you have to favor someone....but if someone does it in every game, it becomes very obvious to anyone who knows how to really play, and they will probably be called on it....

and without a doubt i play different players differently....some are aggressive some are average, and others are absolute snakes in the grass waiting to kill without being seen....i play them all differently....but its not an unfair advantage...its just experience...the info is all out there for anyone who wants to see how a player plays

In the end id rather be thought of as a fair player, then get more points....

My brother and I(polsih) usually play doubles. On occasion we get into games where we all singles. I announce our relationship...and then proceed to try and take him out. :D

Situation 1: No, I would play impartially, stategically to try and win, and then brag to my friend that i won.

Situation 2: If it is terminator, assassin, or escalating of course i would protect the friend for strategic purposes, i would if it were a stranger too.

Situation 3: Yes this gives a bit of an advantage. For example my dad knows im super aggressive and unlucky with the dice. We however only play team games together.

As for the poll, i vote no, as it does not really matter if they are or not. If they play as if there were a secret alliance then negative feedback is always appropriate.

I am so sad you feel you have to say that, perhaps the mods should mod more?

Uh, okay...

That really depends. First a perfectly even situation isn't really possible, but I'll suspend that. It really depends on which friend. If I know my friend sucks at Risk (most of mine do) I probably won't attack them first because I would consider an unknown player to be a bigger threat. I always attack the person I view to be the biggest threat to my winning, if that turns out to be my friend, I would be attacking my friend.

AlbroShlo wrote:Situation #2,

LOL! I'd probably eat at the guy's back, but not because he is attacking my friend. If someone is dumb enough to ignore me the whole game and single out someone I'm going to take advantage of it. Perhaps I would thank him via PM for handing me the game and being an ignorant arse. I always 'help' people being ganged up on. Unless it is freestyle terminator. Then I am a complete jackass and position myself to snatch it away from the aggressive guy. (or escalating cards, if my friend has 4 cards, I want them, and if the other guy makes it easier to take, great!)

Obviously yes. You really can't create a rule to get around that. I play with the same people a lot on this site that I don't really 'know' in real life per say, but I am more familiar with what they are likely to do. It's the same advantage there. Also, it isn't hard to go check out the game logs on your opponents if they are frequent players (it has saved me a few times), but I guess that isn't really the point you are trying to make.

I may be an exception, but I'd like to think most people are here to win. It is a game. People are going to act in what they feel is their best interest if they are any kind of a good player. I think playing with someone you know is both an unfair advantage and disadvantage. If you know what your friend will do, chances are they know what you would do, I don't see how one is more helpful then the other is hurtful.

I have some people who will remain nameless that like to troll this issue and taint any real results, not the mods fault though, how many mods to how many player's again.....

Glad to see the response to the poll, alot of good points being made.

(almost)everyone on CC is a friend of mine! :D now that I've stated so, I won't need to say so at the beginning of a game!
Seriously though, I wish great pain on cheaters ( secret alliances )
and once the game begins, I think of only increasing MY chances of winning, I don't protect or attack people based on who they are. or even what there ranking is, as I've played privates who took games out from under me.

Well I have some friends on the site plus my brother and brother-in-law.
I hate to say it but because I tend to lose to them, I attack them first if I can.
I've given them more points than I care to admit to.

Why does everybody think team games are for friends to play together? Sometimes they like to play against each other.

but here is the catch, 1) even if the members announce their relations, (no matter what kind of, families, or friends) and

1-1) if they win singles (they are the final two)

1-2) if they win doubles (they are the final four)

1-3) if they win triples (they are the final six)

what can the rest do, still report as mult and secret alliances lol?

OR even in the extreme cases, 2) they dont even know each other,

2-1) they are on separate double teams- they dont attack each other

2-2) they are on spearate triple teams- they dont attack each other

what can the other people do, still report as mult and secret alliances..

so whats the whole point of putting this topic on anyway...i dont mean either i support or i dont support, i am just saying it makes no difference at all, if you suspect some ones, you report....and how can announce either two or more players annonce their relations or dont announce their relations will change the outfit of reporting cheating and abuse reports..

I play to win no matter who im playing. Friends, family, and people i dont know. The satisfaction of winning outweighs any feelings of partiality. Also I would rather not know if i was playing people that know each other. If you know that they are friends then you tend to see partiality between them even if it isnt realy there.

please only start one thread on this topic. I've merged both here.

IMO, announcing friends is a bit ridiculous. I have many friends on this site, including fellow clansmen, people I've played a helluva lot, etc... doesn't mean I attack them any less than I would anyone else.

of course....im pretty sure family is the real question....though i sometimes let a new player ive played 30 or 40 games with someone...its only to not make them nervous if they see that for themselves....

but i also have some doubles partners that would never play a singles game with me that wasnt private because i play so many with them....

i would only play higher ranked players with any usual partner, because they understand it can actually be done fairly....and they will know if its not

if I had no chance at winning and was about to be eliminated while cashing in a set of cards for that round I would suicide on the person who wasn't my friend. Or I wouldn't cash in and then thin my troops out enough for my friend to take me out of the game. That is of course only if he took his turn after me. Although it would be tuff to convince myself that I had no chance at winning.

yeah it's a pretty dick head thing to do, but that's what friends do is help each other right?... :P

the question should be if you were going to lose what would you do...

A. Help a friend - (correct answer) :D

B. Help a stranger - (a bullshit lie)

C. f*ck them both - (you're not a good friend)

Like wicked said, announcing friends is a bit ridiculous, as a lot of us make friends here on the site. Family is more of the same. I announce family members in the chat, since being accused of cheating for not doing so, but i have to say that some people take this game far too seriously.
