Can neutral player conquer territories

I'm in game 7515174 which is the feudal epic map. I was taking my turn, ended it, and was all set to reinforce from my home castle when I found out I couldn't because the neutral player had taken back a territory I had previously conquered (from said neutral player ie, the computer). Now, I haven't been on this site real long, and just want to know if this is something that happens/can happen in games (has yet to happen in any other games I've played in) and just want to know if it may be a bug, or just a normal occurrence.

Some maps allow a special type of assault called bombardment. Bombardment doesn't allow you to conquer once the opponent's forces are destroyed, instead it converts the opposing region to neutral.

SirSebstar, that doesn't sound like my case. I originally conquered the territory from the neutral player, and the territory was mine for several turns. With the way the map is, no other player could have taken that territory from me. Yet now said territory has reverted back to being neutral. There was no actual opponent involved in this case

Game 7515174 Has nuclear Spoils.They turn regions into neutrals.The game you are in has had 2 trades already.One of those trades must have nuked your region.

To answer the title question, there are some maps that have "killer neutrals" (ex.The Citadel). Once you occupy it, the region will be reverted instantly to a neutral territory next round. In those cases, neutral players can "conquer" territories.

killer neutrals can be found on a few maps and indeed revert to neutral at the start of your turn.
