Memorial CC Arm band.

Postby AAFitz on Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:47 pm

Concise description: Recently lost a respected member of CC, Mr. Moody. Perhaps a sort of black armband can be worked into the title as a memorial, and as notification that one in CC has passed.

Not all get along all the time, but all spend time together playing the same game. A memorial band for those that pass may be a nice way of reminding all of the loss.

Or they could replace the summer bash banner when it is over, with a RIP MrMoody Banner for a couple of weeks

Thats even better than I imagined to be honest. Id be interested to see what others think. The suggestion of the memorial wall was deemed wrong, and I actually didnt think it was a bad idea, so I hope this suggestion doesnt fall into that area too...and by that I mean I hope people arent offended by the suggestion. I heard others have passed in CC and I never heard anything about it, so I feel like its worth having such a symbol so we can pay our respects.

Look, I don't want to come off as a morbid asshole, but I prolly will. A couple of weeks is again over the top. When anyone ever dies, at least at my country club as well as other places, you fly the flag at half mast. You mourn the person that has passed, but you don't leave the flag at have mast for weeks at a time. I like Moody, thought he was pretty funny in live chat when I had interactions with him, and its a shitty thing to pass at such an early age, but this is a gaming site not a funeral home.

I think it would be great if they took down the summer bash banner and replaced it with the one created for the next 2-3 days, but to do it for weeks, its a bit much.

Why not just post you think 2 or 3 weeks is too long and a shorter time is probably better. You could have avoided both being morbid, and the second part.

Because no one would've really known why he wanted it to be shorter.

I agree with tig though. It should be a week.

Also, the longer we have it up, the longer we're reminded of his death, which means we'll be sad for longer, which I can guaran-damn-tee you Moody wouldn't want.

My point was that bashing a good friend of Mr Moody for making a quick suggestion was beyond insensitive, and could easily have been handled better, and given the same information and reasoning. I happen to agree a couple of weeks would probably be to much too, but that doesnt mean he had to go so far, in trying to make it seem like a bad suggestion.

Fitz, did you misread, I said yea...the banner is a good idea...for 2-3 days not a couple of weeks.

I never bashed Moody, and I said the other stuff as my reasoning .

No you did. What I posted was that you were bashing his friend for suggesting a couple of weeks, but again, lets just move past it. I happened to agree that a couple of two weeks is probably too much as well, but that you could have posted as much without being the "morbid asshole" you suggested you were going to be. I dont care what you think of my suggestion...but that was a friend of him posting, probably out of remorse suggesting two weeks, and you stepped on it way, way too hard. Personally, I think you should edit it.

Either way, this is about showing some respect for fallen CC players, and right now, one that was well loved, and just passed.

Well shit, if saying over the top for having something up is bashing....guilty as charged.

2-3 days with the banner is my suggestion, I'm done with this thread.

Good. Cena, just ignore his whole post man...we understand where your heart is. I do think a couple of weeks may turn out to be too long, but agree, he deserves much longer at the same time.

My own thoughts would be around the one week period as well, but really reserve judgment until more add their thoughts.

Fitz, I'm really missing where he bashed anyone. He agreed that this was a good suggestion, but the time frame was too long, and compared it to when flags go half-staff for a week. He was not trying to be insensitive in any way and there is no reason for you to be against him in this for that.

But it doesn't matter anyway. I support this suggestion, but for only a week.

Well, Ill trust the other two posters that agreed it was insensitive, over your view on it. Either way, Im going to ask Mr Benn to take this over if he wants to, or someone else, so we can move past this ridiculously childish blemish on what should be a way to respect a fallen player, and not some children who cant understand how to control themselves with people who are genuinely grieving.

Agreed, I think people have been showing their onw personal memorials by sporting his avatar, creating threads, and several other forms of respect, and i think thats great. But as said, people pass away all the time and they aren't honored by the entire site. Be it he was a forum volunteer and respected member, a little much if we're trying to get over it.

I would have no problem at all if the site were to implement it, but I think that would be up to Lack and other admins to decide.

To throw in my two cents, I agree with tig, owen and gk. Any short term remembrance by the site would be in good taste, such as the current dedication of the newsletter, but some type of prolonged mourning ceremony seems in bad taste and surely would not have been Moody's desire to see community members grieve him. Instead I think his passing should warrant a celebration of who he was, the map dedication by MrBenn and the newsletter doing such, but some type of prolonged memorial seems to rub in the loss.

I see both sides of this.
Right now it is amazing how many people are sporting Mr. Moody's avatar. Perhaps there is something to that. What if the users avatar was made available to everyone to wear for as long as they like in remembrance?
Maybe your "arm band" suggestion could be combined with the avi of the departed and made available, leaving up to the individual users discretion to show their support, while not creating a prolonged memorial that could upset some people.

No one is really suggesting a prolonged memorial. The suggestion is to post a band to let people know someone has passed in the community, and honor them for a short time to display it. Its not really a new idea as most sporting professionals will don an armband, etc to show their support. It certainly needs to be done tastefully, if at all though, and a simple black ribbon as Mr Benn suggestion would be a nice little reminder for all, without going too far.

The suggestion actually isnt for any prolonged memorial at all as much as a sign that someone has passed, so that all will be aware, and a reminder whether for a few days, or a week if that long, out of respect. I fully agree that any more than that, and anything more than a small symbol would be too much.

Keep in mind, this suggestion is was made because I was unaware that others have passed, and if there was a ribbon displayed, others like me who were not aware would have surely posted their respects.

One ribbon, or armband on the menu board however would certainly be respectful enough I would think. It almost feels as though something is missing on it now.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of Moody. He was a valued member of our community, and the outpouring of support for his bereaved is touching.

Given his status as a longtime member and high profile volunteer, it is my unofficial opinion that the newsletter dedication is sufficient in terms of official CC commemoration. If individual members would like to continue to honor his memory in a public way by altering their signature or avatar, I think that's lovely.
