Looking for opinion on dispute...

Postby Lootifer on Sun Aug 15, 2010 8:24 pm

First and foremost, I am not here to flame or create drama. The topic is related to drama (and will no doubt give the trolls some amusing reading) BUT the main objective of this thread is to see if I need to change my behavior.

The context around the discussion is in one game Stealth99 eliminated me early on (in itself fine) but did so in a way which crippled himself. In another unrelated match (in which all the dialog took place) he attack me in a way which I personally thought was irrational, he was hurting me and himself and letting the other players in the game get away to a very big lead.

I've basically tried to argue with him in game chat but due to his/my personality I have come off feeling a little weird about the whole thing.

Here are the games:
Game 7266382
Game 7234955

Any advice would be appreciated, I have pretty thick skin and have trolled with the best of them so I hope to get some genuine replies.

He's already taken care of that, but my main reason for bringing it up was selfish I guess: I want to know if I did anything wrong.

I've moved on. The debate is over. I just feel pretty weird coming out of the whole thing, and I feel I'm doing the right thing by questioning myself.

Well, there's always room for improvement. Looking at the situation pretty quickly, you should've just ignored him from the get-go.

It's always a nice feeling you're being the bigger man and walking away from the situation instead of arguing over something that already happened (to me, at least).

I've had my fair share of these types of arguments (in the past). I think it's important to remember that anytime you even start such arguments, you are coming from the bias of your own desire to win. That does not mean that you cannot argue with a significant degree of intelligence/objectivity. But think about it, are you really passionate about it because someone played stupidly or because it affected yourself? I'm not saying he did/didn't play stupidly; but I think that puts the importance of the matter into a proper context.

I realized at some point that most of my arguments came in multiplayer games and that it was because of the friction of being jumbled up with other players and not liking moves people made that altered the balance of the game. Sure I might have legitimately considered them stupid, but I eventually resisted impulses to argue and slowly I gained perspective that not every bad move is so bad or not every bad move (or series of bad moves) is worth arguing. You can give them a bad rating and move on and it does not get personal beyond that. That's what I do and I find I enjoy games more and I don't draw the ire of the other players. You know, the squeaky will gets the grease.

That's just my perspective and in all fairness I did not go over your chat logs so if you think that your situation transcends beyond my advice then I'll say fair enough. But that's how I try to conduct myself and if this helps then good.

"Squeaky will"?? Wtf is a squeaky will and why would you want to grease it? Ew.

I've found in the long run that most people will find out the best strategies if they keep losing despite killing people. It's a marathon not a sprint. Hopefully a self-correcting problem.
