What are the general guidelines/rules for account sitting?

Postby Joodoo on Tue Mar 10, 2009 6:37 am

And what other things should I be concerned about when I sit for someone?

If you sit for someone, it is not complicated:
1. Only sit in games, not forums
2. Only sit after posting in game chat that you are sitting for so-and-so
3. Have the player for whom you are sitting change their password after you are done sitting to protect you.

EDIT:Does the player who's doing the babysitting have to drop all "Waiting for Players" games or are they only restricted from creating new games?

The first part is correct.
The second one, is optional
The third part, is also optional

Also, as I've noticed from this thread:
posting.php?mode=quote&f=57&p=1893394

If you're account sitting, they expect you to log on when the account is in danger of missing a turn, and nothing more. So, for example, if the timer puts it so that you can only take the turn if it's at 3am, well, that's what happens. You take it when the admins want you to, not when it's convenient for you. Otherwise, you're "taking advantage of the system".

A little over-dramatic aren't we?

That is not quite what they mean by "taking advantage of the system". That whole discussion was in regards to sitting for a teammate. If you're sitting for someone because they're going away, or can't play (like jleonn), you can take his turns whenever they come up.

Definitely overdramatic... player you are sitting for tells you when they expect to return and you login when ever it is convenient for you to check their games until they actually do get back.

agree... when i sit for brett, i can't start new games, but i can play his turns in our dubs games whenever i want, has nothing to do with the clock. he will usually say, "i'm in so and so for 4 days, cover my turns because my net is spotty out here and i'm busy..." then, after 2 days of great turns and increasing his rank, i'll wake up to find that he has blown 500 pts overnight playing speed games in a drunken stupor... ha!!! anyway, just use your common sense and don't abuse the system, and you are fine. of course, i am speaking solely about standard and sequential games, mostly doubles. if you are talking freestyle, it is a different can of worms... however, i already posted the link to that monster thread where that issue is also discussed...-0

p.s.-hey, clear babysitting guidelines... didn't twill promise us those?!! ha!!

If you follow these three rules, you will have no trouble. If you want to be drama queen and push the limits into other areas, then complain when you get busted, well that is your choice, as some others have chosen. But stick to these simple rules and no drama obama.

4. Do no sit for someone in a game that they are playing AGAINST you.
5. Do not take someone's turn for them unless they were actually going to miss the turn otherwise. This is especially important for team mates, in freestyle games. That's where the abuse possibilities lie.

Also, #2, and #3 are only recommendations, and as long as you're not abusing the privilege of being able to get/be a sitter, you won't get in any trouble for not doing those. They are common courtesy, and generally a good idea though.

disagree, i think that is only applicable in freestyle games, at best. no way you gain any sort of advantage by taking your teammates turn before the clock winds down. as i stated earlier, when i sit for my partner, i am told how many days he will be gone, and he emails me to let me know when i can stop taking his turns. no tactical advantage is gained in a standard team sequential game by a babysitter taking his partners turn well before time runs down.-0

when i account sit for people, they tell me when they will return, it is also very important that you say something funny in game chat that will throw other players off. it has to be something ridiculous, and funny though.

i will also create a couple games here or there, like quads games i know wont start for weeks. although, it hasnt gotten me in any kinds of predicaments, i am done doing that for future in case a team scouts games and joins right after we set it up.

i am actually glad to see players scouting for games lately. i like playing against peers of similar ability, rather than constantly cooks, and cadets who have no account sitter, and one of them gets kicked out, or eliminated before he takes two turns.

but as long as you put in chat something about them and animals, you are great. good to go.

that is against the rules, fyi... i believe the guidelines clearly state that you can't start new games with the account you are sitting for. however, it is obvious you are not abusing it, just letting you know for future reference...-0

Right, but if someone is not going to miss a turn, there is no need to sit for them. It has been decreed (forgive me for my lack of sources) that speeding the game up is not reason enough to have a sitter play for you. You only take brett's turns when he's likely to miss (note, that does not necessarily mean, "at the last minute"), not just because he's at work, and you want the game to keep moving.

just wondering about the freestyle team game account sitting.

a friend of mine will be gone for a long weekend, but we didnt finish one of those team games yet. now as doubles partners we basically check up on msn daily to take our turn together.

how does it add up now i'm sitting for him? can i log into both accounts and take our turns together? or would that count as gaining an unfair advantage - even though we already play that way - and do i have to take one turn after the other?

as i understand it, the 'unfair advantage' means i can't sit for my friend just so we can take our turns together, but if he's gone for a longer time then its okey to take both turns at the same time.

or am i wrong here?

not really... although i died just before my partner left so we wont be taking our turns at the same time anyway, i'd still like to know how the general rule is for this type of thing, since i'll keep playing doubles freestyle, this situation will probably come up again eventually.

You can sit for your friend as long as you are not opponents in the game.

You can sit for your team mate, you should not take more than one turn within a 24 hour period. In a freestyle game the unfair advantage would be like, your team mate is the last to finishes a round, a player from the other team starts his turn 5 minutes later and you jump on and take both turns again. That would be an unfair advantage.

You shouldn't take more than one turn in a 24 hour period for the person you are sitting for, within reason of course.

let me attempt another attempt at clarification.
Strategic account sitting is not allowed. sitting for teammates in sequantial games is okay. Sitting for freestyle teammates is dodgy but okay but no account hopping, so not lets attack from A, Drop some troops from B on A, move troops from A to B, Attack from B, Move more from A, Attack more from B And then again shift troops again and again (assuming unlimited). Basicly, you can play freestyle teammates as long as its sequential. No advanced tactics, if you want that, get someone from outside the game to sit.

personally i am not sure here, but this does seem most honest. Just dont abuse the system for an (unfair or otherwise) advantage and you should be fine in most cases.
