Poor Sportsmanship

Postby madeinchinain85 on Fri Feb 24, 2006 2:02 pm

I've starting a thread to list people who show poor etiquette in the Complaints and Abuse forum here. Some of you guys might have read it already, but since it's not getting alot of views, I decided to start a thread here too. I'm starting a list of "dirty" players, please report any and all instances of what you feel is poor sportsmanship (holding, broken treaties, vulgarity) in either this thread or that thread (game number and in depth comments would be helpful aswell). Or feel free to bash or praise me for what I'm doing in this thread. :D

I believe your theory has its merits, especially to warn newcomers of less-than-desireable folks to play with - I on a personal level however do not feel comfortable throwing names into the pot....I have about 6 in mind but I will just do my darndest NOT to play with any of them in the future.....good luck - I will take to heart any names that warrant list inclusion...

"holding" as annoying a tactic as it is, is still valid play. I don't think it should count as "dirty play".

It is valid, but it is a general consenus that it is unfair, and I am under the impression that lack intends to fix this in the future. In either case, I am also stating exactly what they are accused of doing, if you find that what they're doing is ok, then go ahead and play with them.

... Best to just keep it to yourself, MadeInChina. Anybody could come on here and start trashing people... Sure, some might deserve it, but maybe some don't.

... If I may make a suggestion, do what I do - formulate your own list of players you think are reliable, honorable, solid, and what have you, then swap your list with other players you get on with. Make a list of slackers, holders and children who have ruined your games and swap that list, too - with private messages.

... When you start a game, unless it's private, there's no telling who's going to show up anyway.

.... I'm going to send you my list right now, as a matter of fact. Check your Inbox.

Glossary

I agree with Nobunaga.

I like your idea of a Glossary though. Perhaps you should start a new thread with that title.

Nobunga......If you wouldn't mind, I would love a copy of your list...mine is in my head (ouch) but I am going to put it in a spreadsheet to keep track now that I have 20 - 30 games going all the time! I will reciprocate if you wish...

I love your game name.......

I think I need some clarification here. What exactly is "holding"? And you have made claims that breaking alliances is always a bad thing. In some cases, i would encourage breaking alliances made in the game, but any team games should never break alliances. During one of my games, me and this dude made an alliance with a 2 turn notification before you can attack. We walloped the other guys and on the same turn that he finnished the last other guy he sent a slew of troops my way. Altho some of you may disagree, I consider this fine because A) I owned him anyway and B) He would have absolutly no chance had he waited those two turns. He only had NA and Europe while I had the rest, so he cant be claimed as "dirty".

Anywayz, my main point is that look at it from their perspective and consider the fact that it was your own fault for trusting that player. That is a "Risk"(pun intended) that you have to take.

... Turns go for as long as 24 hours. "Holders" will begin their turn, get their armies... then just sit there - FOREVER, watching other players make their moves.

... This allows them to react instantly by placing their armies someplace they see another player might be getting ready to attack, and things like that.... but

... the more underhanded purpose is to play your turn last, then never end your turn, just don't bother to fortify at the end and it will stay active indefinately (well, 24 hours). Then these cheaters can sleep, go see a movie, whatever, knowing that no other players can get into the game because their turn is not finished - it's being "held".

... Then, when they come back, wake up, whatever, they will finish, then hang out until another player (probably very pissed at this point) begins play. Then they get another turn.

... Not the best explanation, but I'm typing in a rush here - gotta get to work. Cheers!

... Game# 4536 will show you a very good example of this type of abuse.

... but some see it as "tactics".... ?
