Are the 'dice rolls' really random?

Postby Congressman on Tue Jun 29, 2010 12:12 pm

I don't believe that they are, personally. I see patterns in my turns and from different computers at different times. It seems that they're not consistent and it goes in spurts for a while the dice rolls are bad, always bad, all the time. Then, it will change, and they will be good for a period of time.

Conquerclub: You need to revisit the the program that set up the so called 'random' dice rolls.

That does NOT explain it. As I read in one post there, someone lost in an attack of 9-1! I'll lose two armies per roll four or five times in a row in a single attack, and not just occasionally, OFTEN!

This is NOT random. And that post does not explain anything.

You clearly do not understand what random means.

I'm so tired of people who complain that their dice are not random. Then when you ask why they think so they say something like "well I lost a x vs y that shouldn't happen if it's random" duh...

Random is random. Random means that given enough rolls, anything is possible, and CC has about a million dice rolls per day. Get over it and learn to play better.

I'm sure your mom lets you win at risk if you throw enough tantrums, but that won't work here on CC you know... the dice are what they are, deal with them or go home.

defanition of random

Mathematics & Statistics. Of or relating to a type of circumstance or event that is described by a probability distribution.

if you never lost a roll that would still be random unless you loaded your dice

To be fair, its not entirely his fault. there is probably one thread a week made to complain about dice threads(probably an exaggeration). There have been several improvements to dice over the years, and the dice results are fetched from random.org. The point being random is random. You see patterns because your brain tricks you into seeing patterns. I have never seen anyone complain when they go on a winning streak, yet it happens. Logically, by the law of averages, there must be losing streaks as well. Perhaps the dice aren't perfectly random. But i would say they're pretty damn close.

The system is specifically designed to favor those who consistently in mail envelopes full of small loose bills. You might consider trying that approach.

I'm curious to get opinions on the dice odds...say you're using Dice Analyzer & have over 30,000 rolls logged: How far off from the "Ideal Stats" would one have to be for you to consider them "lucky" or "unlucky"?
