Empty Territories

Postby dwilhelmi on Sun Apr 25, 2010 8:30 pm

Concise description:
  • Allow you to advance all of your territories into a conquered territory, leaving an empty territory behind.

Specifics:
  • Instead of being forced to keep one troop in territories left behind, allow for complete advancement
  • A territory left desolate in this way would be left with 0 neutral armies
  • Empty territories would take away continent bonuses
  • Empty territories could be conquered by anyone who chooses to attack them, with no risk of failure

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Would allow for some really fun underdog comebacks (someone with 3 armies bulldozing through a large group of 1 army territories to take away opponent's bonus)
  • Realistic - this is war, who says you have to occupy regions you conquer? Pillage, burn, and move on.

I sort of agree with the background of it, but since you get a standard 3 deploys per round, and it increases the more territories you hold, why would someone leave territories they have conquered empty?

It would depend on the purpose of the assault. If you are attempting to expand your own empire, you would not want to leave any empty. However, if you are striving to break bonuses, or reduce the lands held by your opponent, it could be very helpful.

Right now, it is fairly easy to predict what your opponent will be able to do against you, especially if they are at a point where they are only getting three troops. If you could leave empty territories behind you, then you can do an awful lot of damage with only three troops. It would make it harder to hold your empire, especially if you leave one of your borders weak.

I like this idea. Seems like a good plan. an army could march around the board without having to lose "reinforcements" by dropping one off at a conquered territory. Will allow players to break more bonuses. Would this be a game setting (optional) or available on all maps at all times?

My preference would be always available, if only because there are already a lot of game options and I would like to not clutter up that screen more than necessary. I would not be stuck on that point, though.

I would think that a new game option would allow players who don't like the idea to avoid playing that style. To change the entire site, I think you'd face a brick wall with respect to trying to make it happen.

Fair enough, I'd agree with that.
