Sort by "Recently Completed" in Game Finder

Postby dowian2 on Thu Mar 25, 2010 8:23 pm

Concise description:
  • Implement an option to sort the "Finished" games in Game Finder by the time they were completed.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Tournament organizers will be able to update standings more easily.
  • Other players will be able to look at their games (or their friends' games) to see what games have been completed recently to contribute to ratings changes, etc.

I'm nearing completion of the NCAA Hoops tourney, which had nearly 3,000 games played. In attempting to update standings/RPI/etc, it became a cumbersome process of going through games that had already been recorded, etc. A "Recently Finished" option for tournament games or players' games would make this go a lot smoother for larger tournaments.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but TO's can label leach round of the tournament differently, and in the case of a tourney with a Round Robin or Regular Season phase, they could label each set of games differently. I'm running an MLB tourney right now, and I have the games labeled by division (there are six in the MLB) and by week (each player has around 4 games per week). This way, if I search for say "AL East R1" I only see 10 games.

If you did this foe your NCAA tourney by conference and week (say 5 games per week per team), then you could certainly it at 1 page of results, then use CTRL F to find specific players.

The problem is when teams from different divisions/conferences play, but you could at least narrow it down by week

It's easy to find them if I'm looking for them - the search feature works nicely for that. However, if I'm recording 100 games at a time, and they aren't necessarily the most recently created 100 games, it becomes cumbersome. For example:

Games 1-5 go out Monday, games 6-10 go out Thursday.
Games 2, 4, and 5 are completed Wednesday, I record them in the standings.
Games 1, 3, and 7 are completed Saturday. I don't have a good way of recording these without looking at all ten games (or at least all six completed games).

Obviously easy on the small scale, but it becomes more annoying.
