Dropping Deadbeats

Postby Timur the Lame on Thu Mar 11, 2010 9:51 am

Waiting 72 hours to drop someone is too much. People should be dropped after missing one or at most two turns:

People should be dropped after skipping one turn or at most two. Its aggrating to know that you'll have to wait the full 72 hours for someone you know is deadbeating. At the very least it should be an option in game creation that people can select i.e. "One turn drop." Obviously this would only aply to non-speed games. The fact of the matter is that even if you've missed 2 turns you shouldnt be able to come back. Seriously, if you've forgotten to take your turn for 1+ days then maybe you shouldn't have joined the game.:

This would speed up games and seriously redue dead-beating:

Not sure how you think this would reduce dead-beating, but the fewer the amount of turns you need to miss to deadbeat the more dead-beating occurs. Also if you reduced the amount of turns requited to drop out it could become strategic to drop out of team games so your teammate gets your cards instead of the opponent. This would be especially bad if it only required one turn to deadbeat considering any time you were going to be eliminated it would be in your interest to miss and give everything to your teammate.

My suggestion is:
2 consecutive missed turns = kicked out from the game
3 accumulated missed turns = kicked out of the game

Dude...you dont make any sense. If you kick someone after one or two turns then that is one or two turns EXTRA that somebody would take dead-beating. Somebody joins a game and wastes three turns vs somebody joins a game and wastes 1-2 turns. Which wastes more time.

I dont get it....what is it that you enjoy about sitting around waiting for someone that you know is dead-beating to wait their turn.

As for your comments about potential tactics. I assume that would be illegal. And if not then people already complain about people deadbeating for 2 turns and then coming back to claim their turn with a pile of troops. People abuse the systme as is and they will abuse the system in the future.

I just dont get why you would enjoy maximizing your wasted time?

Dead-beating as i understand it is the act of getting kicked for missing turns...thus the fewer turns it takes to deadbeat the more deadbeats occur.

Also why do you care if people deadbeat, as long as they are not on your team how does it hurt you. Furthermore if you really don't want to have to sit around and wait, do one of three things. Get a lot more active games currently you have 15 if you want you can get to 75 easy. Second play speed games when you log on want to play and don't have any waiting turns. Or third play games that higher ranking people will join, as they are less likely to miss turns (currently you play against a lot of low ranking freemiums which are often less committed and thus more likely to miss turns/deadbeat)

I see where our misunderstanding is coming from. The way I have used deadbeat is to define someone who joins a game and doesnt do anything and not as the act of getting kicked.

Basically, people should get kicked quicker for skipping turns. Waiting 72 hours is ridiculous (in my mind).

I still dont understand why you wouldnt promote an idea that would save you wasted time. But in response, I, and i dont think anyone else for that matter, dont want to have to run 100 games at a time just so I can get one turn in a day. My game quality seriously deteriorates and its not as fun. Speed games are irrelvant to the topic. Lastly, you cant always choose who you play against. Would be nice if you could but you cant (at least not without putting in some serious effort).

Fumandomuerto I think has a great idea.

If somehow you are still agains the idea I dont possibly understand how you could be against including a 1 or 2 turn kick option in game creation for skipping turns.

Off topic: I know a member who would have 90+ games going at any given time, please don't recommend this because it sucks for freemiums who have to wait for the gold member to take all his turns to get to your game (which takes a long time when you have 90+ games going)
On topic: I agree 72 hours is too long, I think we should go with fumandomuerte's idea

If "having a life" means you can't make it to a computer once a day, maybe this site isn't for you.

What about longer games? For example, missing 3 turns in a game with 300+ rounds would still be a 99% attendance rate, which isn't so bad...
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

It seems to me that the majority of deadbeats (at least in standard games) are new players that register for the site, join 4 games, and then never show up again. I'm not sure how best to resolve that problem, but one possibility would be to keep the current deadbeat rule but to additionally drop anyone that misses the first two turns of a game. I think it would also be worth dropping anyone that has missed a total of more than say 35% of turns in games longer than 10 turns.

Well, say that every week on a Thursday I know I won't be able to access the site then I would be kicked out of a game after three weeks? In a freestyle game that is fairly long it won't take long to build up.

In a sequential you probably won't miss many turns.

I think as the site is designed for the casual gamer you don't need to have extreme strict deadbeat rules.

My suggestion is to include the option in game creation. One tick mark box (or skipped round entry box) that says "Quick kick" or something like that and which would institue an option that would kick players after one or two turns skipped. That way if youre a player that likes taking one turn every other round or two and have no consideration for other players than you can pick a game that doesnt have this option selected.

CHOICES and OPTIONS. Those are the key words here. Having options allows the accomodation of multiple gaming styles which would attract and retain more players, This way everybody is happy.
