Chat notification when friends play each other

Postby Samus on Thu Feb 22, 2007 1:24 pm

I have seen way too many questionable moves in which a player seems to act against their own best interest to ensure victory for someone else, only to examine their play histories and see that they have been partners in other games. Secret alliances are pretty much impossible to prove, but worst of all they are not apparent until the game is out of reach.

I don't want to ban or limit people playing together, all I want is the following chat notification added when the game is initialized:

"Players XXXX and YYYY have been partnered together in previous games."

Obviously the message only appears of they are opponents, not partners.

So that's all I want, a message. It isn't especially accusatory, it doesn't effect the actual game, and it doesn't constitute evidence proving anything. All it does is inform the other players in the match that these players have a prior history, and maybe they should watch the game more carefully.

Feedback and "secret alliance" complaint is about all you can do...If XXXX and YYYY get repeated complaints they will look at them...

Rules Quote:
"Any form of collusion between opponents must be announced in the game chat. Secret alliances are hard to prove, but if you suspect one please leave negative feedback to the members in question. Should enough people have the same suspicion, we will take corrective action against the individual(s)."

I know what the rules are, I don't want to change the rules. I just want a message at the beginning of any game where frequent partners play against each other. It's suspicious to say the least, everyone in the game should be notified.

Your not the first and you won't be the last, however I doubt from my past experience that you will find many willing to announce relationships between players In standard games, since It makes them a target, and some do not think It relative...Thats all you can do...

Protect yourself cross check profile before you play...I miss some good games while I'm checking, but I have not been scammed In a while...

This is a suggestions forum and that was a suggestion. It's not a rule, it's an automatic message given by the game, not the players. It appears upon initialization whether the players involved want their relationship hidden or not.

It doesn't effect the game, so I can see no downside to this. Playing "against" one of your friends and trying to hide that relationship from the other players is questionable behavior to say the least. Declining this suggestion can only be saying "we don't want to make cheating harder."

If there were to be such a message,it would also have to have the facility to say, "xxxx and yyyy partnered each other in game no.x, and opposed each other in game no. y".
In other words it renders it useless-you can merely check the profiles, feedback and other games involved in.

When you say "partners in other games" do you mean taem games? Do you mean working together in singles games?

"questionable moves in which a player seems to act against their own best interest to ensure victory for someone else"

It night not have been in their best interest in that game, but it has been posted by some high ranked players that if they don't think they will win the will try to have the higest ranked player win so they lose less points.

I think a loss is a loss so if they have no chance just try and play to win still

rolyshark: Yes, just like LetGodSortThem, I now check out my opponents. But there are thousands of players here, and it is not my responsibility to launch a full investigation on all of them just so that I can get a fair game. I do not accept the general system of "once you've been cheated a few times, you'll know to watch out and it will happen less." It should happen zero times. Cheating is way way too easy and I have yet to see a "busted" secret alliance in the cheating forum.

Evil Semp: I mean partners in team games. Previous opponents would not trigger the message.

I understand your point about letting the highest ranked person win, which I think is sad but not quite cheating. Like max, I fight to the death. You never know when you'll survive to get a 10 set. But the message would only appear for former partners, not former opponents. When you see that two people are friends and they start leaving unprotected borders to each other, everyone in the game knows what's going on immediately.

I'm sorry, being able to hide your friendships from other players isn't some right that I'm violating. It's a deception with only one purpose: cheating. I still don't see any downside to this.

I understand where you are coming from. My wife and I play team games and if by chance join a singles together by mistake we announce it in chat.

As far as announcing friends I have had a good number of friends join this site, and have made some friends. As far as announcing a friendship in a game, I don't feel compelled that I have to make an announcement. In my case I will may say hello to my friends by name or make some smart ass comment. You can usually tell by the chat if they are friends.
