special games for secret treaties?

Postby Nous-irons on Tue Feb 20, 2007 9:54 pm

I was thinking sometimes it's a shame that we can't arrange secret treaties, when it would be really interesting and fill the game with intrigue. As I see it, the main problem is multis and abusers, right?

Well, I guess a solution would be to allow them, but only in a "random lot draw" only, or maybe in specially arranged tournaments.

I mean, sometimes you sign a treaty with an ally but you realise that ally is becoming too powerful and you can't backstab him yourself. It would be intriguing to try secretly make peace with your old enemies after a bitter war, for example, and your ally doesn't suspect a thing ... yet.

This to me, would be a very nice aspect to those who want to play that way, especially since this is how things operates in the political arena. It's a shame that they are forbidden only because of abuse. The entire world structure has been practically been formed from the secret alliance system before WWI, which led to the alliance system in WWII, which led up to the secret alliance funding of various Middle East groups.

actually, you probably could if you set up private games with people who agree to it.....dangerous business though

and i played on a site where they were legal....i didnt see the point....i refused to enter them, and instantly was eliminated by the other players...

but if everyone decides ahead of time, it could be interesting...you have to be damn sure everyones on the same page though

and even then...you may get some complaints

Play "Diplomacy", the games are full of deals like this - basically Risk without the dice.

I've been looking for a simple one (like this is for Risk), but they all seem over complicated. I'd love to play online cause I can never get enough players (or time) for a face-to face-game. If anyone knows one please let us know!

If anybody does find an uncomplicated on-line diplomacy let me know as well because nobody I know has the patience to play the board game

Yeah, you can easily plan to spend a whole day on one game of Diplomacy. Maybe even two.

*sigh* You do realize that the funding of those middle eastern groups caused 9/11, right?

I would also like to see an online diplomacy game. IF YOU HAVE IT AND ARE HOLDING IT HOSTAGE I WILL PAY ANYTHING YOU WANT!!! Well within reason. I would love to have a tourny that secret alliances were allowed. You could find possible players you might play in the future and ally yourself with them, or wait in the heat of the battle!

I am excited just thinking about it!
