If you want a credible website, http://www.godisimaginary.com is pretty good, and there are a few suggestions for books in my Book Talk thread.

Athesism. Don't need any sources just don't buy into the whole gods thing. Everything I need to know about the universe I can get from science (which I studied at Uni). My moral code I create myself all that after-life stuff just seems like a fairytale to me.

question

Postby littlechubb on Sun Feb 18, 2007 3:48 am

Hey you studied evolution in university, what are some of the main points the profs gave for answer towards evolution, is there any books you read/texts/articles/webpages you have read that would give an answer from the science point of view also?

maybe this thread is to tame, compared to the other threads that are full of religious condemnation, if anyone wants a civil talk about religon, christianity, evolution, or anything i am game,

I'll get back to you on this - just about to do some work for a change!

Edit: my books are all at home, and I'm too lazy to quote online sources, Jesse - Bad Boy, covers this topic clearly enough over the next few pages for anyone interested anyway.

Do you mean "the conservation of energy" First law of thermodynamics? If so there is no conflict.

Completely Relativist in philosophy I'm afraid, which is hugely depressing, and politically probably something along the lines of a classical realist tempered with a bit of idealism (although I do realise that is completely opposed...) As for religion, hard line Atheist.

Ah yes, forgot about that.

I am an Anarcho-Capitalist of the Rothbardian-Objectivist school in political/economic terms/philosophical terms. Religiously, a weak Atheist (which is a misnomer, in that it is stronger connected to reason and the scientific method).

My stance on Evolution is that it is a fact, and my profession only reassures me of this (archaeologist by schooling, archivist by profession).

It seemed like too much hard work to think of something for myself, so I just copied shultz. If that's OK.

so there we go, but it would be nice if you guys could give me some links to books, or webpages, that would be great,

and to start a convo about evolution, there seems to be alot of conversation going around about how animals naturally adapt to there surroundings, compared to a species just up an changing to another? see other threads for these arguments...

Err... Evolution doesn't argue that a species just changes, but rather the adaptation to your surrounding is part of evolution.

And I'll link you to anything you want, but you're being pretty vague. What is it that you're arguing? Far as I can tell, you really don't have much.

http://www.talkorigins.org/

Well, there's a good one for evolution and the nutters who challenge it, on all sorts of bizarre and fantastic grounds, not least some implausible "contradiction" with the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Best evolution site out there, hands down. Although, I don't think he'll wade through all of that to get his answers, as is common with the slower folk.

yah, iam not arguing anything, i am just taking pieces of what people say and trying to have an acutual conversation about the topic at hand, someone started off with evolution, so here we are talking about evolution, so far there hasn't been any major opinions on any topic, to get this thread going, so that s why i was vague,

so through discusions that you guys have clearly had about evolution, class, with friends, even with yourself, what questions come up with this subject? what makes you believe in it? what science is there to back it up?

please add sources!

I am want to discuss evolution and other religons, i like doing it, i like learning, if we have someone leading the conversation who is not condemning everyone who speaks it will be alright, if we also have people posting links attached to there point of view, or there argument, it will be alittle more easy to keep the guys throwing put downs when they have evidence of there belief...

thanks for this site, its great, just went to the Noah's ark on the page, and it brought up some great questions for example,

the ships sea worthyness most ships that are 3oo feet long are rare and they are straped with steal, where the the ark was 450 feet long and would have been extremely difficult to make sea worthy,

the boat width was half of its lenght, so theres its going to be rare if the ship flips,

?? any thoughts on this topic?

thanks for the website

Hi LittleChub,

I like your style. I am an Anglican. I was influenced early on by the writings of C.S. Lewis. Mere Christianity is my favorite. It was a series of war time radio talks (that he gave at the request of the BBC?). It is a great common sense argument for Christianity that does not rely on the authority of scripture, or Heaven or Hell.

Lewis personally, was a class act, marrying Joy Gresham so that she could stay in the country and eventually nursing her through the final stages of cancer.
