Hide cards

Postby THORNHEART on Mon Nov 16, 2009 12:19 am

Hide the amount of cards a player has at any given time in the game. Most games come down to cards...Why should all the players be able to see how many cards you have? This is especially true in fog of war games (I recently knew when to make a kill based on how many cards my opponent had) I think it would make the game so much more realistic and fun if you couldn't see how many cards another player had. It would add a whole new twist on the "waiting to cash deal"

Now yes obviously some douches are gonna say that you will be able to go back and track manually through attacks how many each players has but lets be realistic players will seldom have time or the commitment to do so...if they do props to them...it would make them work for it atleast.

I think cards should be hidden...Especially in FOG games.

This will make game play much more strategic.

If you took this function away from the site, someone would write a script (or add it to BOB). The only thing this would do would be to handicap new players/those that don't use BOB.

Maybe you could have a true Fog of war setting, where the entire game log is hidden, including the number of cards?

so basically your refining what I just said...make it so SOMEHOW we cant see which players have how many cards...think how fun a 8 player esc would be at 60 cash and no one knew who to kill it would be awesome

This is dumb. It would wreck 8 man esc games

I have to agree with ha3ha and if you think esc isnt strategic now, maybe you should have a look at the strategy you use

I would just count the cards in the gamelog if I had to, it's not hard, just take a quick scroll through the log.

This Suggestion seems like it would actually detract from a gaming experiencing for the majority---instead of adding to it.

Actually, data mining (reading through the log) would give you the same information anyway. So you'd basically just be handicapping the people that didn't want to waste their time scrolling through the log for every turn.

Perhaps if you want anyone to take your suggestions seriously you should refrain from trouncing on the logical statements people are making and referring to them as "douches". Scrolling through a log does not take that long as all you need to do is see if the person took a territory on a given turn or not. It wouldn't be people with 'time or commitment' it would be anyone who actually uses strategy in their playing of a game with cards involved.

Andy is right in stating that this would not add to, but rather detract from the game. Though it doesn't make it take too much more time, it still makes it a more time consuming process and for what? To take away a count from people who are too lazy to read a log? All that does is add an unnecessary disadvantage.

The only way something similar to your statement would be plausible and make sense would be with a 'true/heavy fog' setting, which has been suggested prior. In this sense there would be no log period, which doesn't really do anything except leave the entire game up to guess work. If you really want to take the strategy out of the game- that's the way to go.

i think it sounds like a great idea, really takes fog to a new level, it becomes super fog, you have to be careful as hell..

Ah, so since your argument has fallen apart, you resort to name-calling. I guess you don't have much going for you, do you?

And if you believe players won't spend the the small amount of time necessary doing that, you're really not paying attention to our leaderboard.

Only because some douches make stupid suggestions.

Lack of info on the number of cards held by your opponents would completely ruin large player escalating games.

Play no spoils if it bothers you that much.

This is the way things used to be. I would love it. It would be a hindrance at first, but I know that I am able to read a game log, so, overall I would be benefiting, since most people couldn't, or at least, wouldn't bother to read the log.

Of course, I am not the "average casual user", so even though it would benefit me, overall, it's a bad idea. In fact, it would actually be removing a previous improvement.
