Vote to end games with non-starting players

Postby Lou_Cipher on Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:48 pm

Something I think would improve this site considerably, if we could have a system to end games with non-starting players. Suppose, for example, that you joined a game with five players, and only you and one other player started the game, while the other three players missed a turn (or three). It would be nice, once someone missed an initial turn, if you could then call a vote to end the game, no point penalties for anyone, and, if unanimous, the game would be ended right then and there.

I only intend for this to apply to the initial rounds of the game. If someone played a round, and then missed a turn, this wouldn't apply. The intent is to prevent wasting several days between rounds because some player(s) never started. It would have to be unanimous to avoid abuse (otherwise people could call a vote when they were given an unfavorable starting position). Also, it would only be an available option after at least one player had missed an initial round.

I think this would not only improve gameplay, but also increase subscriptions to this site. Playing on a free account, my biggest problem so far has been deadbeats (mostly noobs) who join games and never play, and that's not something that increases the chances of me subscribing.

It seems to me that, were you to subscribe, this problem would be resolved.

Don't subscribe! I did for years and paid for other people's membership. For some reason they are not going to nor have tackled the problem of "deadbeats". if you go with Premium you will have a lot more games going with a lot more deadbeats. AT one point I created 44 games and had one or two in each game. I like to play the World 2.1 map. I only like playing this map since it's close to the original RISK map I grew up loving. I do not play other maps and there's a group of my friends on here that for the most part do not also.

Most of the "deadbeats" were players that created an account then never played. Half of the time they were the last to join, so the game started when they joined. They never took their turn so that defeated the whole premise that it was someone who just gets tired of waiting. These are intentional deadbeats. Someone is intentionally doing this. Over the last few months I have started to see the deadbeat start their turn then never finish it. So every 5 person game I have one deadbeat. There's no way this is a random event with legitimate players.

It's one of three things. (1) An ex-employee that is doing it do frustrate members into not joining or giving up their membership. (2) a competitor doing the same. (3) The site itself trying to artificially drive up it's membership an increased in price for the sale of this site. A non-paying member 'might' purchase a membership so you would look at these statistics when considering a purchase of this site.

A stricter new membership process could be created where the new member would have to type in random words/numbers in a box and then a link sent to activate the account sent to the new members email. This would greatly decrease a computer program from creating these bogus accounts. Anyone with a website knows this, hence almost every membership website does this. CC doesn't and has shot down this suggestion before. Because of this one can only logically conclude they like or are creating these new members for the above reason of creating a fake membership. I doubt he's noticed the mere couple of hundred dollars each year I use to contribute to this site.
