Too many junior officers??

Postby Mr Changsha on Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:03 am

As of today, 17% of CC's finest are ranked at officer or above and a whopping 11% of players are either lieutenants or captains.

Senior officers (colonel and above) make up 1.6% of the rankings while the brigadiers and up make up .5%.

7% of current players are cooks..too many cooks and not enough soliders it seems to me!

Fact is, we have too many officers.

How about we make 2,000 points the cut off for lieutenant? This would give us a 5% officer base..which seems a bit more reasonable to me.

CC could add in levels of NCO's to cover 1,600 to 2,000 and I would like to see something like...

800 = Cadet
900 = Private
1100 = Private 1st Class
1300 = Corporal
1400 = Corporal 1st Class
1600 = Sergeant
1800 = Sergeant 1st Class
1900 = Sergeant Major
2000 = Lieutenant
2300 = Captain
2500 = Major
3000 = Colonel
3500 = Brigadier
4000 = General
4500 = Field Marshall

I also adjusted the lower end, as it is equally ridiculous to have, for example, more sergeants than privates. The 100 point spread of sergeant majors would reflect their rarity in the army..I think it would be quite a nice niche rank to have. Colonel would become a real challenge to aim for, while we could count our true elite (Generals) on two hands.

What say you?

Yeah, probably time for another ranks revision, however sad I was about losing my officer status last time round.

Under the new system you'd be a corporal 1st class.

Demoting nearly every person on CC will not be better for CC.

While its much easier to become a major or colonel than it once was...it still takes some work....and its all relative to some degree.

Demoting everyone by a rank or two would discourage some to the point of leaving I think. While I agree it may even be a more realistic guage...I think it would be a foolish one to actually implement.

It would only really serve to change the types of games that people play, in order to achieve the higher ranks. It would not reflect or reward skill any more than it does...and simply reduce the amount of fun that many people have on it.

The ranking is all relative, the ranks come to mean different things over time, but I dont see anything wrong with that. Besides...obviously only 17% even care about them at all, or there would be more higher ranks than there are now.

My man, you are seriously overestimating the intelligence level of some of CC's finest!

If I said that I had to assume some of my opponents must have been actually blind, and using some (not particuarly effective) braile screen/program contraption to make their moves, would you think I was lying?

But that's not the key point here.

CC should have a ranking system that makes sense, that will improve the quality of everyone's gaming experience.

I mean we could just ditch the military ranks entirely... and I'll call you Space Ranger and you can call me Galactic Overlord...

...hey, that would be pretty cool too!

But let's not get diverted here (read divert myself :oops: )!

Make sense with the ranks, CC!

Lets all take a lesson from a movie called "The Onion".

The government decided to take a step against Obesity, so they raised the legal limit on which one could be called obese from 400 pounds to 500.

Yay for everyone who is no longer obese!

Yes, this idea definitely has merit, maybe should move this thread to suggestions? Maybe a poll to see what people think, I vote yes to this 8-)

I posted a thread a while back saying that colonel should be bumped to 3,000. I remember when colonel was 2,000 and major was 1,800. Back then though there were far less colonels, maybe less than 100. Brig is the new colonel now. But I guess it doesn't matter, you just get used to each rank being a little different.

What say you?

In that case, i think this should be a really good idea, with a full score reset for everyone, however they have to start from 1.

right at the bottom of the food chain to make it the most realistic. say for the first 800 points each win is worth 20 if both you and the opponent are under 800 points.

and maybe to follow this have a double scoreboard and double score on the players profile. maybe keeping the old scores up while having the new ones. Gives JR another goal, lol

Added..

With regards to Sugs and Bugs; I deliberately placed the thread here. It will get more traffic in GD and, quite frankly, this is not a new idea. However, I felt now would be a good time to bring it up again..

In the end, if someone in red agrees with the concept it will happen, regardless of whether it is posted in Sugs and Bugs or GD.

I suppose in the end it is a question of consistancy. Why have the military ranks so faithfully represented if they don't actually make any sense in that context? CC is currently so overburdened with NCO's and Junior Officers that there aren't enough grunts for them to lead.

This doesn't make sense!!!

However, I am sure that the majority of those in favour couldn't give a fig about my main point..their beef is to make the ranking system more competitive again. I see their point. 3,000 IS the new 2,500 these days with the colonels spilling over into page 2. I remember back when I started playing that there were a good chunk of majors on the first page..gradually they decreased until, after a while, the colonels started stacking up on page 2. 2,500 has been devalued..I can hold at 2,500-2,700 without actually playing for points and I'm sure there are numerous colonels in my position. Has CC got easier, are there just more good players, or are the good players just getting better and better? I don't pretend to understand point inflation, but the facts speak for themselves..2,500 DOESN'T mean that much anymore..yet the colonel rank should mean 'entry into the elite'. At the moment it frankly doesn't.

So CC should have a very small proportion of senior officers (about 0.5% IMO..or roughly top 100 on the scoreboard) for the reasons given above. However, the state of the lower ranks is of at least equal importance. Surely 60% of CC's players (at least) should be ranked at corporal first class and below? At the moment anyone NOT AN OFFICER OR NCO is basically considered to be a functioning idiot. CC would play better with the mass below those ranks (thus having a much greater percentage of decent players in the ranks) with about an elite 10% of NCOs and Junior Officers to aim at for us mere mortals... with a truly tiny proportion of Senior Officers as a super-elite - which should begin from the colonel rank.

CC needs a rake.

If someone wins an 8 player game, they get the points, but 8 points go back to the house. Too many officers? increase the rake, not enough officers, decrease the rake.

This way, no one notices the adjustment like they would if they got stripped of their rank, which is dumb.

my only problem with the idea is this. All striper ranks look the same. Now some good players at any given time have the rank of captain, if we made them sergeants, we could not tell them from the other stripers very easily.

1600 = Sergeant
1800 = Sergeant 1st Class
1900 = Sergeant Major

You would have three different symbols around this level.. with those under 1600 also sporting different ranks.

Unless you literally mean you can't tell the difference between a corporal and a sergeant 1st class?

I'm not sure anyone can help you with that... ;)

High ranked players aren't any better now than they used to be. I can still pick a part a Brig or General's moves. Point farming is one major reason for inflation. Some people hold their rank by almost exclusively farming noobs, and then when they play similar ranked foes they distribute those noob points to the rest of the first couple pages, and that's where they stay.

I'm not sure how changing the ranking system would help anything because at the end of the day it's all relative. If 2400 used to get you to the first page, and now you need 2600 to do the same, then you should be able to get 2600 easily because of the inflation of everyone else around you.
