New Medal - Map Conqueror / King

Postby Teflon Kris on Fri Sep 18, 2009 5:43 pm

SUGGESTION - Medal for players that have a great record on specific maps.

Concise description:
  • Conqueror medal for any player that is the top ranked player on a particular map. Minimum number of games requirement (e.g. 40 games on that map).
  • Other medals for any player that have achieved +1000 pts on a particular map.

Specifics:
To make such medals possible - our resident Map Rank code expert, chipv would be required I imagine. By the way, does he perhaps deserve a contribution medal for his wicked add-ons?

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Provide players with another target to aim for. :D
Plus, another medal which requires real hard work and expertise to achieve - such medals would be most proudly won and give holders great satisfaction.

also it is possible to tamper with that score.
If I would play a 1v1 game on any map, and right after that I would play a doodle assassin 8 man, and repeat this cycle, I would get an infinite score on that particular map.
I do not think that that is the kind of achievement I would want medals implemented for.

How about map ranks? like a seperate scoreboard for each map.

:?:

How would Doodle Assassin wins help you improve your score on a different map (regardless of the fact that doodle assassin is a great way to lose points rather than win them - if you could guarantee to win them you would be conqueror).

I'm guessing you are thinking of relative rank as opposed to raw points gained on a particular map.

Raw points gained has diddly-squat relation to performance on any other map. To have +1000 on Battle of Iraq, say, has no relation to winning or losing doodle ass scratch cards.

It isn't possible to tamper with your points-gained total.

chipv has started to do this - however it is dependant on players having map rank and undertaking map rank analyses which feed into chip's database (or something like that). Click on Map Rank Scoreboard Server to see web page where you can view all scoreboards.

If lack were to implement this idea then it would involve the site engine keeping track of individual players' map ranks (raw number of points gained) automatically (in the same way it tracks players' total kills on different types of game for the current suite of medals). I'd guess it would involve a touch of programming and a little more ROM-space (a few MB or GB?).

Up for debate but better if not, site policies would probably say not anyway (I couldn't get the mods to delete my Ratings medals even though I have deleted some to be below 500).

If a player has achieved Map Conquering status at some point in time then they deserve a medal (as long as there is a minimum # of kills / games played or won).

If other players overtake their points total on a specific map then several players end-up with a medal for that map.

Maybe the map conqueror medal idea should be re-named?

Or just dropped, and bronze, silver and gold medals introduced for specific +ve points totals on specific maps?

The points required for each medal (and minimum # of kills /games) would need to be set carefully, otherwise shed-loads of players would get shed-loads of medals for different maps.

However, analysing chip's scoreboards for several maps, even the top players on this site only have a small number of maps they score highly on.

I like this idea.

Maybe a good score for Bronze would be +500? I'd only have 3 Bronzes...
I'm just thinking +500 is a pretty standard number, and is used for AAFitz's and Mad Pineapples' Map Rank leaderboards in the General Discussion.

The thing is, one of the great things about the Cross-Map medals is that they discourage farming, and I fear that specific Map medals would just do the opposite.
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

Re-thinking this, I realise there is still a problem, map-obsessed players may undertake the suggested tactics in order to gain more points on the map in question.

Hmm, kill %age might be needed - i.e. no kills/no. deaths ?
