Should we add humor to that list of American traits? Titanic you just picked apart lyrics to a South Park song.

Direstraits, your basic constitutions and bill of rights are based on teh Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights(UK). Once the revolution was over, you copied our system, but implemented a slight change in using codification and changing the Westminster system to a presidential one. No educated scholar would ever say America created the modern democracy, because they just didnt. Its like saying Europe discovered gunpowder.

Backglass, the guy who I mentioned earlier, read up on him.

The internet was not invented by the CIA. DARPA were the ones to first implement a similar system, but the World Wide Web was created by an Englishmen.

Spuzzell, I gotta agree, Arthur Miller wrote some good books. Roald Dahl was an amazing writer(and Quentin Blake a very good artist), and I loved his books when I was younger. I still have a huge collection of them, even though I've not actually touched them for ages, I'm more into fantasy and crime. You ever read Bartimaeus trilogy by Johnathon Stroud?

hello everybody, im probably going to get shot for this but i think that most of the time the wars the USA are involved they think they are the "world police" and that they have a righ to say" hehehe iraq has lots of oil, saddam hussein is killing many people, lets use that as an excuse to get their oil" basiclly that is what they are doing.
Rap music is being listened to by 97% of teenagers, if you're one of the 3% of teenagers that actually listen to real music, then put this in your signature.

I won't shoot you, but I do believe that it is Americas responsibility to play a leading role in overthrowing tyrants. I don't know about secondary motives (you mentioned oil), but I consider these instances doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. However,i ts still the right thing.

The World Wide Web is not the internet, which was your original claim. In fact the "World Wide Web" isn't really anything but a catchphrase for a collection of ideas (HTTP, Client/Server topology, markup language, etc).

Your claim is akin to claiming that an Englishman invented the automobile because it has disc brakes (an English invention) .

Thank you, at least one person here has the good sense god gave a sheep.

Jesus, it was my attempt at making fun of the author's posting the song "God Bless the USA," I didn't think anyone was going to take me seriously.

It's from Team America: World Police, which is a complete parody of the US and it's tendency to go places where it doesn't belong.

*shakes head* Jesus, you people are hopeless.

^^ THANK YOU

Does penicillin being a british invention make you, englishman, a better person?

Does the fact that your parents fucked over there instead of over here make you a better person? How do patriotic platitudes change ANYTHING?

THis is the worst thread so far. Please block it. Jamie is the biggest moron on here, which is saying something. It's saying a lot, in fact.

This is where things break down into semantics and intellectual rights.

Depending on how you define "internet" is crucial to this argument. Do you define it as an idea / concept or as a functioning entity?

The internet we know today has far more in common with WWW developed at CERN than ARPANET developed in the US, although ARPANET was developed many years prior to WWW.

Devlelopment of WWW (Europe) was in direct competition to GOPHER (USA). WWW won out due to superior technology/ including development of URL, HTTP and DNS...however both systems were exclusively available to government / research facilities.

The next big steps, the browsers required to market this product, were the US's first real involvement; Mosaic developed at University of Illinois, Netscape, and then Microsoft. The rest as they say is history.

The 2 ingredients that promoted the growth of WWW in USA were USA being the centre of personal computer development and very low cost (if any cost?) telephone calls creating the huge explosion in the WWW in the 1990's.

There are two ages of the Internet - before Mosaic, and after. The combination of Tim Berners-Lee's Web protocols, which provided connectivity, and Marc Andreesen's browser, which provided a great interface, proved explosive. In twenty-four months, the Web has gone from being unknown to absolutely ubiquitous.

A Brief History of Cyberspace, by Mark Pesce, ZDNet, October 15, 1995

The WWW was developed in Switzerland. The USA created the root zone files as they recognised the need for regulation of DNS. Although America has no intellectual rights whatsoever to the internet the USA does now regulate the internet.

The original idea of the internet I agree was first formed in the US. However what we now know to be the internet was without doubt founded at CERN.

Dazmcfc - O yer, thats true, so yer, its German, no American.

Edmund - The final book is much better then the second. The second book is very good in the changing personality of Nathaniel, but as a storyline and development of the trilogy overall it does very little. The first and third books are better imo.

Colour is the proper way to spell it. USA stole our language and infected it with spelling and grammar mistakes.

You don't need to know anything about this thread. It's full of nationalistic shite anyway, up until the point someone lauded the global phenomenon that is known as haggis, at which point the thread became brilliant.

Those look like ancient Roman water baloons.

I don't find the prospect of eating organs cooked in a creatures stomach to be very appetizing, but then again I have eaten McDonalds...

Can't be much worse than that...

So what's the penalty for shredding some cheese on those bad boys and loading them up with salsa?

Probably 5 yards and a forced participation in caber tossing events.
