Alternate Fortification

Postby cranberrysucks on Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:54 pm

I personally hate unlimited fortification. However, I would actually like the option of having unlimited fortifications in the 1st round only. Does anyone else agree? Is this option even possible?

No it is not. Next time, for a post of this stature, please post it in sugs and bugs(suggestions and but reports). I realize it is also a question though.

Personally, I think the first round is the absolutely WORST time to have unlimited fortification. I don't mind it after the first turn, but it gives a TREMENDOUS advantage to whomever is going first (without the other party having some opportunity to dampen the effect). So I'd almost think the opposite of your suggestion would be better (at least, for me).

I'm curious as to why you state unequivocably that it is not possible...

He states that it is impossible because the original question asks if there is even an option for this. Unfortunately, there is no option for a "unlimited fortifications on first turn then ______ for the rest of the game". I think it is perfectly reasonable that he says that it isn't possible.

As for the original question, I agree with spock when he says that it would not be sound to allow unlimited fortifications during the first round, as it would indeed give the first player a tremendous advantage.

It seems very clear to me that he's asking if that's "an option that could be added", not "an option that already exists. I say this because he states "However, I would actually like the option of having unlimited fortifications in the 1st round only. Does anyone else agree?", which definitely appears to be his suggesting that it's something he'd like to see happen and is hoping to round up some support for it.

And then i laughed at myself :D

On Topic...

I think the 3 fort choices are fine...
My preference is Adjacent, as it requires more planning
Next is Chained, because it's hard to get people to join my Adj games
Unlimited is... well... it just makes things too easy

That makes sense, but then if he were really trying to get something done, he should have posted in Suggs and Bugs. Posting here will not make it possible, ever.

I apologize for the late reply to my part there. whitestazn88 was right, that's what I was referring to. I have no intention of outputting my opinion if it's not an actual suggestion. 8-[

Trying to get me to put forth my opinion?

Anyway, I don't really think it would be useful on big maps. But it would be great for when all of your territs start right next to each other in a great way and you have a very dominant position already. :D

I was asking if it were possible to create the option, I realize that may not have been clear. Another thing I was thinking is having X number of turns that you can use unlimited forts. Even if it were just one.

We realize that, so please fill out this form so the lack can find out, by telling us what you really want and why you think it might be useful. At the moment it is not an option though.

My thinking behind the unlimited just in the 1st round was to give people with very poor drops to at least try set something up for themselves. Just a thought.

mnnnn... very poor drops might also include no adjacent territories... might just give even more advantage to some over others...

Sounds like what you would prefer is a little less random start, like the old board game where you picked your territories one at a time... unfeasible here, but maybe it could be random territories with 2 men each, then 3 or 4 rounds of deploying the remaining men before attacking. Going after continents would occur more quickly, and experienced CC players wouldn't be so surprised when playing at the IRTOC - International RISK Tournament Of Champions

This sounds like a good way to start a game or provide an excellent alternative option.

heheee.... you don't understand... CC players, after playing a thousand games or so, figure they have they strategy nailed... but that little tiny difference with the initial deployment TOTALLY changes the way the game develops... and CC players have no real experience with that...

*sigh* you're still not getting all of it...

nobody was surprised by the rule, just surprised by the difference in game play.
