Seperate team and singles team scores.

Postby PLAYER57832 on Thu Jul 09, 2009 1:04 pm

Concise description:
Have a rank for specific set, named teams. Perhaps also a seperate ranking for team only play

Specifics:
People who play with set teams. It could be just one set of teams with an assigned name or there could be potential to have more people assigned to that name.

In the "begin game", there would be an option to play a team game. One person would enter the team name . Then other teams could elect to join. Individuals might be allowed to join, and wait for others to join, but they would know up front that this is a "set" team game.

Example:
Team "Teamplay 1" might be a group of 4 that "always" plays quads together , no additions.

Team "Teamplay 2" might be a group of 6 that switch off playing together. They may play just quads or all team games.

In both cases, the team name would be selected. Individual scores could go just like now, including only those actually playing if the team is a "rotating" team. However, there would be a seperate, (added code lines) ranking rating the team as a whole.

Some rules would have to be specified. For example, a person might be allowed to join only 1 team. I would like to see the ability to have teams exceed 4, to allow for rotation (because I find that often there are groups of friends that like to play together as teams, not just the same 2,3 or 4). Unlike usernames, team names might be allowed to die/close. If you join a team, you should not be constrained from beginning a new team should the old one dissolve. However, there would have to be a limit. Maybe only 1 new team a year unless there is a serious and compelling reason to start a new team more frequently. (one of members is ousted from CC, for example).

Also, would new people be able to join? (I would say yes, if the teammembers agree). If one person is ousted from CC, what then? (likely the team would have to reform) Etc.

The teams might get ranks identical to the standard ranks, but with the "team" modificaiton or entirely new ranks (perhaps based on sports teams or military units or ???)

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
[list]
This is a variation of a theme introduced before, but I did not see these specifics given before.

There are several reasons for this. The first is to give "kudos"/ratings to groups of people who play regularly together, apart from their individual ranks.

The second is to announce when groups are playing together as a team. People who have been here a while can generally recognize the groups, but not always. This puts it all "up front". X group is playing as a team. Other teams can play them, even individuals can play them (but they will know this is a set team). It will open up a new area of competition and, I feel make CC more popular.

I suggested a limit to the number of teams a person can join so the system does not get too unweildy, though it might be OK to allow people to jion more than one team down the road. (if so, there would have to be a function that would prevent 2 teams with the same member from playing each other).

The individuals would still be rated as individuals, this would just be and added score.

I'm in favor.

A) It's a neat idea. I would suggest team rankings, instead of being ranks (cadet, seargent, major, etc.) be unit sizes (Platoon, Company, Division, etc.)

B) It would forewarn opponents of what I think is the greatest newbie farm scam of all- the officer team. (I'm not saying they neccesarily do it purposely to newbie farm, but the result is the same.) On one side, three skilled, high-ranking opponents who regularly team play together on a small handful of favored maps. On the other side, three opponents who probably don't know each other, odds saying that probably at least one of the three is either a new recruit, a deadbeat, or someone who never talks to his teammates. It's not even close to fair. With good partners, I love teamplay, but I've walked into that set up too many times, so I stay away from teamplay now, even though it's more fun then solo play when its good. Seeing the Starting Team was "Company Blitzkrieg" rather then three individuals would be my warning to look for a team of my own rather then pick up play with random strangers.

I would suggest sticking to set teams rather then allowing rotating teams. Not only would it probably be easier to code, but teams that can switch out their membership seem like they would open up ways that team rankings can be munchkined. However, allow multiple team memberships in that case, so example Team Teamplay 2 can form multiple team sets depending on which members of the six are available to team.
