KC, Royals - WS Champs before the end of the decade?? Hmmmmm

Postby Jamie on Thu Feb 01, 2007 4:24 am

Don't laugh. I know how much they've sucked, and how SI rated them the worst team out of the 121 major sports teams in the US, and Canada. In 2006 SI, and ESPN the Magazine both claimed the Royals fielded what is widely considered the best AAA team in MLB history. By next year the Royals should have one of, if not the best offense in MLB. With all their high draft picks, they have also accumulated some lights out pitching prospects as well, Luke Hochevar for instance. #1 pick in the 05 draft. Alex Gonzalez, and Billy Butler, are the two highest rated hitters in AAA. Both should be up by August, as well as Hochevar. If Zack Greinke gets on track, Sweeney actually stays healthy, and Teahen continues to blast em, the Royals could by 2008 be a power hitting baseball team. I don't predict a championship by decades end, but i do predict a major improvement this year. Say 75-87 this year, 86-76 next year, and 95-67 in 09, along with their first playoff berth since winning the WS in 1985. What do you all think.

I'm fairly certain Toledo finished with a losing record last year

LMAO!

Oregons Baseball team has a better chance of winning the W.S.

P.S. (Oregon doesn't have a baseball team)

Seeing how the central doesn't have any dominant teams, there's a slight possibility it could sniff the playoffs by 2010. However, they won't make the world series and I don't see them actually getting into the playoffs for a while yet.

They do have some great talet though. SI says that alex gordan has the possibility to be a 30-30 guy in the future, and I really like Emil Brown and Mark Teahan (OF and 3B respectively).

However, this team really needs to improve their pitching if they want to have any chance at all.

A lot of their losses are blowouts if I'm not mistaken.

oh sorry.

Note that last years WS champs finished third in the Royals division. That should tell you something. They could vastly improve, and still not sniff 75 wins.

The Royals are to Baseball what the Lions are to football, and the Grizzlies are to basketball. Every once in a while, they show a little potential, but mainly their just teasing you.

i really dont think the royals have much of a chance in the central division. maybe if it were a few years ago when it was utterly terrible but now it may be the most competitive division.

This is correct. Hell, the Indians would have been competing for any other division's crown and they were out of the Central by June.

No, because the Cardinals are going to win every World Series for the rest of the decade.

no way in my mind, but then again you would have said the same thing about the detroit tigers 5 years ago, so there is hope...just very very very very very little hope.

No. Front office and small market. They haven't been the same since John Schuerholz.
