Post Major Announcement In GMT Also

Postby lozzini on Thu May 21, 2009 4:33 am

Post Major Announcement In GMT Also:
  • For major announcements, such as the server downtime, post the time in GMT in brackets, or what the time posted is compared too GMT i.e. GMT +6

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • The many Uk and European players will easier be able to tell what time things happened
  • People can plan around things like server downtimes

This doesn't seem at all hard to do, just a bit of extra typing by someone everytime

Hang on a sec! You were so close to a really could suggestion! ;)

Why can't they say, the sever will be down from XXX to XXX, and put the times as chosen in our personal settings? I don't exactly know how to express what I'm saying, but we've all chosen a time that can be seen in the forum and other places. So is there any way that the listed time could update based on our personal preferences? That way everyone would have the correct time listed and no one would have to do any math. The only mistake would be if someone had their time set incorrectly which would be their own fault.

Yeti, Chip or someone smarter than me ;) ....would this be possible?

I don't know if what sully suggested is possible or practical. However, I think one easy solution would be to have the admin who posts these announcements post the local time when they are making the post.

So, if lack makes an announcement that the servers will be down at 5pm eastern and I see that he posted at 2:30pm for his time, I can then check the forum time stamp and see that his 2:30pm is my 6:30pm. Then I know that the server will be down at 9pm my time.

Well if lack can only say one time the best option would be GMT. Everyone already had their profiles set to GMT +X or GMT -X.

It would be easy to post GMT and EST since lack would know both. But I think the best solution would be to have it adjust for everyone, if that is possible.

If it's possible, then a big yes. But GMT is the best because at the bottom of the page is says "All times are UTC - 4 hours" or whatever.
