Ceasefire in Freestyle Speed Games

Postby Wwoody123 on Thu May 07, 2009 9:25 pm

Concise description:
  • Ceasefire in Freestyle Speed Games

Specifics:
  • Enable an anonymous voting option in freestyle speed games to end the current phase. Unanimity among surviving players first ends the attack phase, then after another vote, the reinforcement phase. Players can vote and unvote as they see fit until everyone is voting for a ceasefire.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • In large speed games, very often we see a round devolve into stalemate. Players cannot end their turn, because doing so may earn them spoils and make them a target for attack. Also, they might be waiting to see if someone else is going to try to wipe out a player in order to swoop in for the kill. This wait is especially egregious in games where several players have been killed in a round, making the wait upwards of ten minutes.
  • By adding this feature, large *speed* games will be able to go much faster without an unnecessary wait that, if the vote is made unanimous, nobody by definition wants.

Like a pause game? or an early end game?

Sounds like an interesting idea. You should add the specification of "freestyle" to your subject line and in the suggestion post itself since this seems to be the only game type you are referring to.

It would be an early end phase. After everyone votes, the attackers' phases will immediately end. After everyone votes again, reinforcement is over and the next turn can start. The last person to vote for the ceasefire would be considered to have ended their turn last and could not start the next turn. Play resumes normally afterward.

I like the idea of this with an additional pause game feature as well! If there are buttons to toggle about turn order, why not allow freestyle players to take a 15 minute break (as long as everyone agrees at the same time). It's a different suggestion but based on the same logic as the original, and I think both would be great additions to freestyle speed games.

So this option would almost never be used then. People wouldn't vote if it was a risk they where last to vote (apart from the occasional rookie that gets screwed ;)).

Hmm good point. I said that because I wanted to encourage people to vote for a ceasefire as soon as possible. The exception you present is interesting, but I don't think in reality it would happen that much. In large games, people are more afraid of getting killed for taking an extra card than starting there turn second.

If it does present a problem, though, it could be treated as if they all ended their turn at the same time, so everyone could start :)

If everyone agrees to it, then this thread will soon die because no one posts in it.
If some people disagree, then it will be discussed for a bit.
If lack feels like it, this thread will be marked "pending"
If you get lucky, then the pending might change to "to do" in less than two months.
After that, nothing happens and it becomes one of the 50 suggestions, many of which are from 2006 that never get coded.

Cheers,
