Mt. everest map

Postby cplross on Wed Apr 29, 2009 9:32 pm

what do you guys think of a map of Mt. Everest (the highest mountain in the world) including the summit, base camps, helicopters, ropes, and ledges as points on the map might be interesting

Ps. if it seems to small add more ropes between bases in real life there are hundreds of old one from past expiditions

Mt. Everest — Conquest to the Summit!

Postby the.killing.44 on Wed Apr 29, 2009 9:59 pm

Mt. Everest
This is an idea that's been tossed around a lot, but not pursued. But it definitely should be. There are ton of ways to go about this. Personally, I think the best way to do it would to be make it a conquest-style map, where everyone starts from their own base camp and has to work their way up. There would be checkpoints along the way where you could set your camp and have an auto-deploy on them, negative bonuses for some specific places, and of course decay from the ice freeze on open areas where obviously it's really cold, and the air is very thin.

I envision a town at the bottom of the map, then base camps at the very bottom of the mountain itself. Ropes would link territories where icons would specify the bonus of the area — for example, a campfire would be a +1 bonus autodeploy as a resting point, a tent a +2 autodeploy for a mountain camp, an avalanche symbolizing a killer neutral area, and the like. The map would be organized as a giant funnel to the summit, but obviously there would be branches going off to different areas.

I'll throw up a really rough map just to show what I think it should look like later. :) If someone would like to do graphics (preferably experienced?) ask away …

I'd rather pursue my own map, if you don't mind ;) . But I think that's my fault, not mentioning it.

I just noticed you posted this about 15-20 minutes after another topic called Mt. Everest, but I think the other guy is just suggesting the idea, which has not gone to waste clearly.

:? Oh, yes you're right. Fastposted me while making up my idea! Anyway, I've developed gameplay further at the base camp with starting positions, auto-deploys, etc. Image later ;)

And I apologize to whoever suggested the idea before …

Anyway, I love the idea, a bit like oasis aside from all the negative bonuses. I was thinking maybe at the bottom of the mountain you start as some explorer guy, or something.

and it should get worse every X feet you gain

edit: and maybe also have the neutrals get worse as you work your way up

ya i meant after it got to 25k, then the decay continued to get gradually worse. Will there be an autodeploy on the bases at the start

oh and another thing is it would be cool if you took the map of the nepal exposure and a sepperate map of the chineese exposure haveing it where one team is on one side while another is on the other side.

That I'm not so sure about, as the approach I took was a profile view of the mountain. All you guys' other ideas I like and will go in :)

I think that would be a cool idea for a 2 player game. Set it up with starting positions for two players so you can race the other person to the top of the mountain, and for multiplayer games you could start at various locations on the mountain and follow the gameplay you already mentioned.

The idea isn't bad - at first glance it seems like it could be a bit similar to King of the Mountains, but I think it could be nice with the summit as an objective?

nah cplross i think it should remain as realistic as possible.
If you haven't read into thin air by Jon krakuar(sp?) you should just so you get the feel of this map.

If no one picks this up- let me know.

I've been doing a lot of tablet work in photoshop and really feel I could nail the necessary artwork if the ideas doesn't make it out of here :D
