Disable Live Chat For PermaBans

Postby sailorseal on Sun Apr 19, 2009 3:15 pm

Concise description:
  • Stop allowing players who have been banned from the forum post in the Live Chat

Specifics:
  • All perma banned players will lose Live Chat access

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • They were banned from the forum, why let them troll the Live Chat?
  • Less Live Chat trolls

Breaking the rules in the forum does not equal breaking the rules in Live Chat. They are separate privileges entirely, which is why there is not cross-over. There are several people who have broken the rules in live chat but never in the forum, and vice-versa.

But what about rules like Bigotry or flaming? If a person is inclined and has reached the level of a permaban, shouldn't it be assumed if now their only vice to communicate is the LC then wouldn't it be likely for them to break rules in the chat?

From what I've seen, if someone gets banned for violating the rules in live chat or the forum, they're always given a shorter leash in the other. But that doesn't equal an immediate banning.

t-o-m was banned a while ago in the forums, but hasn't caused too much trouble in live chat and hence has had his privileges there remain. Banned users can't access profiles or PMs, I'm more of the opinion they should be given this right.

That's exactly why I stay out of Live Chat. I don't want any of the bot-viruses to get me.
