Add bonuses in the map that give you ladder points!

Postby Halmir on Tue Apr 07, 2009 11:47 am

Concise description:
  • Scores are gained through killing other players, a specific player, every player,or taking & holding a victory point for 1 round. This proposal concerns adding another way.

Specifics:
  • I propose adding the facility to gain additional points that count towards your Rank. This is to help you get that elusive promotion to Captain or Major etc, by capturing and holding specific territories or continents within a map.
  • Points awarded to be in the form of an inverse square of your current score versus the average rank (i.e. worth more to lower ranks than those higher up)
  • Points would need to be pre-determined depending on the map i.e. Pirate Cove on the Pirates map

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Adds to the fun and mayhem
  • keeps people motivated to play

Would these points be taken from someone, or simply added into the system? Either way brings up some concerns.

At first I thought this as well, but combined with the "take 1 point from the winner of each game" (multiplied to 3 or so) could stop this problem.

Which problem? How would that solve it?

Nope my idea is just a simple "here's a Treasure Chest" which if u capture that area, u get a 15 point boost (as an example). It could throw up interesting situations where u have to decide to go all out for the treasure chest then know you will lose (as you're horribly strung out and no spare armies left), or watch someone else do this and kill them instead for some easy points.

In that case, the flaws lie in the adding of points into the system without taking them from somewhere. I can think of a few problems that would arise. The easiest one for me to explain is that people could very easily set up a 2 player game, take turns holding the bonus, and let the game go on forever. They would both gain points, without risking anything. It would artificially inflate a lot of scores.

Not to mention the coding required :-^

Maybe it could be done as a Christmas special map, or something of the sort.
