Home Page Improvememt

Postby Rocketry on Fri Jan 09, 2009 6:29 am

This was discussed here: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=66914&p=1773493&hilit=home+page#p1773493, but I started a new thread becuase its a new suggestion.

I think the flashing maps on the front page look rather amature really. They cycle too fast and remind me of those annoying banner adverts you get on dodgy websites.

Could this not be improved firstly by slowing the cycle down (perhaps changing every five seconds at the most) and also adding a fade transition effect? I have no idea how to actually do that but I'm sure someone will know. This will make the site look more professional and attractive.

Also, while I'm at it. Why is the home page cycling maps thing displayed asymetrically? Why not just make it twice as large and centralise it with the text underneath. That would look better to me...

When people are young, they like everything to be completely symetrical.
When you get older, people tend to find assymetrical layouts more appealing.

Been proven scientifically.

It's good to know that lack is taking proactive measures to reduce the number of teenagers around here.

I think a better idea would be to have the maps not rotate, but have the map that is displayed be randomly chosen from a set list each time the page is visited.

For example, the first time I stop by I see the USA map, but if I come back later in the day I see the Italy map, and then again that evening I see the World 2.1 map, etc.

yeah that would be interesting too - 'i swear thats a different map to what was there last time i visited...' I just hate the way it flashes at the moment. You wouldn't see anything like that on a professional website.
