Beginners Mode

Postby NW_Tej on Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:52 pm

Concise description:
Make a new mode availble which only players who have been on the site for less than 100 days or peple who have played less than 20 games can play.

Specifics:
The game would only require peole to join, Every time the game fills up a new one is made by the system. The settings are set at a default of one of five maps: classic shapes, cicrcus maximus, conquerman, europa and siege

    settings:

    classic shapes
    4 players
    standard gametype
    freestyle
    unlimited reinforcements
    flat rate cards
    no fog of war
    casual length
    public

    Cicus Maximus
    3 players
    standard gametype
    freestyle
    chained reinforcements
    no cards
    no fog of war
    casual length
    public

    Conquerman
    6 players
    standard gametype
    freestyle
    unlimited reinforcements
    escalating cards
    no fog of war
    casual length
    public

    Siege
    5 players
    standard gametype
    freestyle
    unlimited reinforcements
    no cards
    fog of war
    casual length
    public

and after 5 games the normal playing options open up to them with the option of beginnr mode still available till they play 20

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
reduce n00b bashing, which i only heard of the other day. let new people get used to playing against new people, and in fairly balanced gameplay settings.
letting them familiarise themselves with the game before they jump into deep water.

When the first Atom bomb test was complete a colleague of Oppenheimer said: "What an Awesome and Foul display of Power." a moment later he added, "Now we are all sons of bitches"

points, but it limits it so that n00b bashing wont happen and that they can get a good feel to the site

New recruits can only play on limited maps and settings already. 5 games is enough to get a moderate sense of how to play, the rest is learning strategy, which you won't learn from other new members.

You might want to re-think the no cards circus maximus setting. Those games never end, and I doubt any new recruit would want to come back after playing it.

Some of those maps make no sense at all for complete n00bs....

Like siege? I played my first game on that and was so confused as to where to deploys go....

More importantly, "newbie mode" has already been rejected many times. It's only a matter of time before a mod gets to this thread and locks it with a redirect link to one of the previously rejected ones. Check lack's "to-do list" for a complete list of planned and rejected suggestions.
