Which is better: to defend or to attack?

Postby geegel on Sun Jan 07, 2007 6:46 am

When there is a 3 vs 2 dice situation (the most common roll), which are the odds for:

1) attacker losing 2 dice
2) attacker losing 1 dice and the defender losing one dice
3) defender losing 2 dice.

I'm interested more in statistical calculations, rather than strange fairytales.

Thank you all in advance.

Best regards, George

In my experience on CC (which isn't that much) is that it is better to attack than to defend. Like a game of chess, take or be taken

If you're fighting 1 v 1, attack.

But you see, most likely there's some politics involved. What you don't want to do is to weaken both yourself and another opponent, only for a third party to benefit.

It really does just depend on the overall game situation.

How good are you at chess? I've learned from hard experience that in both Risk and Chess, attacking too much often fucks the game for you.

P.S. I believe there is another thread about this somewhere :)

Well i've only played a few games and the logic that was obvios was, do i want to roll 2 dice defending or 3 attacking? hmmm... of course i thought that dreamfilled 3rd dice would guarentee victory!
Having pretty much lost every game i've played... i am forced to reconsider that, it's 3 dice where each dice might as well have a -1 added onto it. Vs 2 dice which if you roll a 6 guarentee's a kill... so... i'm guessing if you only have 3 armies, defending FTW, attacking 2v2dice with roll results against you can't be good.

Why would he do that? There are plenty of excellent random number generators out there that are several orders of magnitude faster than hitting some external site.
