Kenya ! [Abandoned!]

Postby ManBungalow on Tue Dec 09, 2008 1:17 pm

I was thinking that we need a new 1 vs 1 speed game map here !

So I quickly drew up this map (draft 1) : http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr317/ManBungalow/Kenya3.jpg

The territories are poorly drawn at the moment, and of course the map is not my own.

The black bordered "territories" are not actually territories, and are out of bounds (they could be "Poaching areas", "Elephant Land" or the like).

I was thinking that Mount Kenya can only be attacked from one side (hence the arrow), but can attack any of the surrounding territories.
I had a go at making Mount Kenya 3d, mainly to see how it would look.

This map obviously needs serious improvement, but I just need to find out if anyone would play this were I to make it.

Responses and comments much appreciated !

ManB :)

UPDATE !

Draft 3 : http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr317/ManBungalow/KenyaOutline8.gif
This time I've been messing with some graphics to see if that would make it easier for you to gauge the gameplay, plus I put a key at the bottom :)

Draft 2 : http://i495.photobucket.com/albums/rr317/ManBungalow/KenyaOutline4.gif
Green areas can attack each other
Holding 2 purple areas gives +1
Holding 3 purple areas gives +3
Black areas are not regions

I could find a better background lol...I like the look of that zebra though :) (could the map be more/less transparent, to allow the background to show up better ??

29 territories and 7 continents seems rather large for a "1v1 speed map" :)

1. Make the map an image, not a link.
2. If you say that you just made something really quickly, I am inclined to wait until you actually make a good draft, so that I don't think you are serious in making the part outside of Kenya pure black.

About the map itself... why do we need another small map with regular gameplay, except for 1 territory which 1 way attacks/is attacked?

Alright :)

I'll try to make the gameplay more unique, I'll put a better background on, and I'll make that image an image (it was just that the black background cut off my name etc on the right.

Any more thoughts ?
Are the bonuses about right now (for a 1 vs 1 map) ??
I'll be bringing out an update soon :) (With clearer attack routes for the green regions, and possibly elephants etc ;)

I think this is a map that is very easy to look at. Very clear cut and straight forward. I would like to see some blockades.
GOOD JOB!

but you still need a ton of work before it is anywhere near complete

Well this map: I mean you just really drew lines on top of an image so obviously it needs work, but Kenya seems like a good idea and it could get somewhere. Keep going.

If I get the gameplay stamp I'll start making original graphics for the map :)

Hi ManBung, (why does that sound dirty?)

I'm generally among the first to tell new mapmakers to concentrate on the gameplay of a new map before worrying too much about the graphics, but in this case you will need to show at least a minimal effort toward making the map an original creation. Right now you basically have somebody else's (probably copyrighted) map with some lines drawn over it, which isn't going to get you out of the drafts stage and to a point where you can get the gameplay stamp.

For your next draft, consider putting together something without the background map and the distracting animal patterns around the outside. Focus on clarity: which territories are playable? What are the territory names? Which territories are a part of a bonus? Are some borders going to be impassable? Etc.

OK, carry on.

I'll get going on that as soon as I can :)

And my name only sounds dirty when you spell it ;)
