How do you expect to top any league tables when you can't even perform the most basic checks on the people you choose to run stuff? I bet they're real careful about that kind of thing in Iceland.

Are you going to provide a counter argument or are you just going to throw things out there to make me feel bad?

Also, now that this topic has taken off, I'd like to somewhat clarify my position on things. I did this mainly for the lols and I am quite aware of my country's many shortcomings. However, if you really think about it, our only real strengths are our relative political stability, which we have had almost uninterrupted since 1788, our massive economic power, which we've pretty much always had, and our largely effective, efficient, and large military, which grew proportionately to the size of our government. This has allowed us to generally affect friendly policies on foreign nations, regardless of it being in their best interest or not.

I'm not saying that it's smart, but that's our true power.

You'd be #1 for government payouts to save business from the crashing economy, which they themselves helped to over inflate :)

I certainly wouldn't want you to feel bad.

But anyone can make a bunch of graphs and charts and lists.

What was your source?

Who knows? I got it from my friend who likely got it from LL.

I'm not saying mine is good, but you didn't provide anything better.

I found the sources...there are a bunch....

This is the source for "Scientific Literacy"....

As you can see, a specific subject, in which the religious beliefs (fundamentalist Christianity) of many Americans will put them at a disadvantage, was used. Even those numbers would be skewed depending on a number of things. It was some person at an American college doing the research. If he/she wanted to skew the numbers, he/she would just have to stand outside a Baptist church on Sunday and ask the parishioners. And I'm pretty sure a college student in America might do his/her best to eject some shock value into his/her "research".

But hey, who am I to question a bunch of pretty charts?

As far as democracy and the like, a lot of it would be relatively simple. The federal system makes it difficult to rank highly in terms of democratic rankings, as well as things like the electoral college certainly must. While democracy is certainly seen by most of the western world as a wonderful thing, it doesnt mean that the US practices it nearly perfectly or even that well. It simply works for the country involved.

So your excuse for americans appearing stupid regarding science is saying that they are stupid?

The fact that so many Americans still believe evolution is false is testament to their ignorance of science.

There are quite a few things that the US does very well in democracy. Specifically their ability to elect majors and the head of police. We can't do that. (And most people have stopped caring about it.)

And yeah people, these charts aren't actually false. Most of it is from the UN.

No, but they do rank #1 in the government corruption category

that's a good thing by the way if you go to the bottom of the rankings and read how the scoring is done.
