Mr. Helix, here is a modern japan map which you might like better. There are six cities which makes it much simpilar than yours but I like this one.

As you can see by the number of respsonses, a Japan map would indeed be popular. I started one myself (below), but found it less than ideal and switched gears after only one draft. If nobody picks this idea up I'll try again in a couple of months when i get some of my current projects off of my desk, and I have anew idea on it, but I'd be very happy to see somebody else have a go.

In oaktown's one there are not enough territories but the image is sharper than any of the other ones. I think we can have several working draftrs and at the end pick the best one.

hmm... future contest?

Anyway, my map will not continue... I've used the background and basic look for the India map, and once I quench that I'll be done making 19th century maps for a while. Like I said, I have an entirely new idea for a Japan map, but I'm not too excited about it so somebody else is welcome to run with it.

Oh... and my map had 24 territories, which is small but not unplayable. Any more and you are really pushing the limits of this region.

El-pres, I like the cities idea that you've got going on and I think I may run with it. The inset is pretty nice too, of which I might play with.

Oaktown, I really like the feudal map. It's got a nice touch and the graphics are great. However, its a little small on territories but with the strange shape of Japan that's how it goes I guess, which is why I'm adding cities.

I'll be submitting a draft sometime in the near future, roughly a week or two. I've got to get these papers out of the way and then I'll be able to devote hours upon hours into making a map.

If anyone has any more ideas keep them coming!

Who's making this map exactly? If Industrial Helix is the mapmaker, or if this is a joint venture, he should post the updates in the first post along with the map's specifics. If captainwalrus is the mapmaker, he should start his own new thread in Drafts.

That is a good question, Who IS making this?

I like captain walrus's but I think Mr. Helix said he was working on a new one so we should wait and see.

People were debating how the linear nature of the territories in the proposed map are not good for gameplay. I was pointing out that if anyone has played the Iceland map, the territories are fairly linear as well.

What I mean is to go from Territory A to E, you HAVE to go A - B- C- D - E, (linear) instead of something where each territory has many borders, and you can go A - B - E or A - C - C or A - D - D (non-linear).

While Oaktown's is very pretty, I'm more fond of the modern prefecture layout. It makes more sense to have the names we recognize.

If we don't like the linear design, we can always add a Shinkansen line to make moving from A to E easier. Hakata-> Osaka-> Tokyo-> Hachinohe. It may be easier to conceive of visually to have lines, than just cities attacking one another.

The Malta map gets rid of its linearness with a single portal. Still, if you can lock the other guy out of your end of the map, he's as good as dead. If we want to make the Japan map round like Iceland (or Malta?), a little plane from Sapporo to Fukuoka may also work.

I believe I am the mapmaker. I'm taking into consideration other suggestiosn an all that, but ultimately I want to do this map to improve my skills. I hope to have a thread in the drafts once I have something satisfactory. So relatively soon. I'll post a link here when its up.
