Why not be able to exclude freemiums in game set-up

Postby mccallan25 on Mon Nov 03, 2008 9:06 pm

Concise description:
  • noobs and being able to keep them out of open semi-public games

Specifics:
  • We need the ability to be able to filter out freemiums from playin our games therefore eliminating Fraud from non-playing members making up multiple memberships.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • xxxxxxx By allowing paying members to not have to spend excess time analyzing the games play to determine if someone is cheating. This is not what a paying member of this site should have to do. It is the responsibility of the site to adequately filter out multiple accounts and not have to rely on it's paying membership to resolve these issues. I am finding more and more multies in my games that I start and I do not have some massive list to exclude nor should I have to, to start games. A reasonable measure to exclude multiple memberships is not being used or met, in my humble opinion. Being a paying member, (and by god I would love to buy the site and make the changes myself) it appears to me I am constantly being defrauded of my membership by inadequate control by the site to enforece their own rules. Premium members I have read many times in the past are "fed up" at times with the site being over run with multi's, so why not give us once and for all an ability to exclude them and not the general public that we do not yet know of have met?

To answer the question in your topic. Because lack would likely reject the idea.
Also, most multis, those who use the accounts to cheat anyway (not the ones who just try to get around game limit), include at least one premium.

A site does not die with paying customers. You can't even say it will not grow because it only grows with people wanting to play more and more games that buy memberships. Freemiums would still enjoy the site just not with those that want to keep them seperate. Of course not everyone will exclude the free accounts I am sure. Heck it might be even beneficial, since I have several players I enjoy playing with that I would buy more memberships for just to keep being able to play them. I personally am not encountering the premium multi accounts.

Would be kind of hard for new players to get interested though if they weren't allowed to play premiums.

Oh how elitist of you.

Possibly, the site does however.

"Would be kind of hard for new players to get interested though if they weren't allowed to play premiums." There are many great players who do not have premium and that are not multi's. Not being able to play a Premium player I am sure would not be a reason most would pay for membership, rather then to play more games.

Reading your posts often I see the need or desire to argue, which generally keeps me off these forums since I listen to arguments most of my day. Call being a premium player and wanting to play others that are, being an elitist then I definitely am. By the way, are you not suppose to be defiling someone's character in another section?

On another note though, If I was able to purchase this site, I would make it free to everyone. I imagine though I would have a lot more computer power looking for the cheaters.

To answer the question in your thread title: Because freemiums aren't n00bs, most of them play just fine. Forcing people to pay to play with the majority of CC is a stupid idea.

If you don't want to play with freemiums, make private and/or speed games.

Making a game private prohibits the ability for Premium account players to find and play in a Premium account only section. I have a core group of about 40 men and women that play in my games that are mature players and it is a pleasure playing with them and not all of them are premium members.

Nice having my idea called stupid. Once again isn't there a section for your "flame wars"? Or do the rules not apply to you too?

Bugs & Suggestions is for discussing and critiquing ideas and so, whilst "a stupid idea" isn't the most useful criticism it does just qualify. Flaming is when criticism is aimed at another player. Having said that, let's make the most of this forum and where we think an idea is poor explain intelligently why ...

So, back on topic ...
mccallan25 wrote:A site does not die with paying customers.
No, but in the context of your suggestion it might be starved of new paying customers.

My line of thinking is this: All of us started as freemiums, then - when we saw how great CC was - we signed up as premiums. Part of "seeing how great it was" came about by playing other players including plenty of experienced premiums. If, when we were freemiums, we'd been denied this experience we may well never have seen just "how great it was" and never signed up.

Ah, Thezzaruz said the same thing ...

FREE M-E-Mbership and simple rules. Conquer Club - it's not complicated.

Simple. Create a usergroup, make it "premium only" to join, and post about private games there.

And we'd stop calling your idea stupid, if it didn't seem like A) a waste of time, and B) stupid.

I have played several thousand individuals here and have only met maybe a couple dozen jerks, and only a bare handful of real absolute A@@###.

Put them on your foe list and move on.

On the other side, while you could certain create your own private group, as suggested, I personally feel there are already all too many private groups now. (just my opinion, of course). Stop playing public games and yes, you will avoid those jerks... but you will also avoid the several thousand decent players whom you just have not yet met.

I agree with your statement already hence the reason I see the need for a new option. (1) If you are not in a private group there’s little chance of being invited into one. (2) If you are in a group you are not getting to experience the wide range of players on here and limited your chances of meeting new people. I have bought many new memberships for people throughout the world that cannot afford them but show enough character to deserve one.

“Bugs & Suggestions is for discussing and critiquing ideas and so, whilst "a stupid idea" isn't the most useful criticism it does just qualify” Interesting and disappointing that a moderator would take a stand that it is ok for another member to call another's idea stupid. The whole premise of this forum is to develop hopefully good ideas to benefit the site and tackle its perceived problems. Your function as a moderator is no different as mine as Judge. It is to monitor the communication of ideas and take a strict middle position to promote fairness and uphold the law. The use and meaning of the word stupid is strictly to insult the person in question, me. It would never qualify in a US court system and serves no useful purpose in an intelligent discussion.

I now realize that this forum is of little use as it now is used, so I withdraw the idea. I will instead take another route and make an offer to buy this site from Lack once again.

Seeing as stopping multis and other cheaters seems to be the main point with your idea don't you think it would be better to come up with ideas that actually does that rather than mainly pissing off freemiums by limiting their experience???

mccallan25 wrote:Call being a premium player and wanting to play others that are, being an elitist then I definitely am. By the way, are you not suppose to be defiling someone's character in another section?

Geez you're a touchy fella. I do think that you came off as extremely elitist, if I'm wrong then I'm sorry.

Given the OP's withdrawal of his idea and that it has gained little support from elsewhere I suggest we let this one rest.
