Video Game Maps Ideas!

Postby DarthBlood on Fri Aug 29, 2008 9:45 pm

Me personally, I'd like to see some maps based off video games.

For one, maybe someone could turn the Subspace Adventure Mode map in SSB Brawl into a playable map?

Or a map of the worlds in Kingdom Hearts? Of course, I'm not sure if playing it would be very fun, but it would be fun to see nonetheless.

More fun maps would be based off the Final Fantasy series? There's so many series, I'm sure that several maps could be based off that. I know right away that the Tactics series (I've only played Advance on GBA and War of the Lions on PSP) could be turned into a map. And for FF12, each new "area" you enter (not counting homes inside cities), can be made into a territory, making the entire map ideal for quadruples.

I don't really know too much about Halo, but seeing as it's so popular, I'm sure lots of people would enjoy playing on such a map.

How exactly would you go about making a map anyway? Maybe if I learned I could try some by myself...

in terms of graphics, video game maps would be a load of fun... in terms of copyright lawsuits, much less fun.

well theres already several based on copyrighted things. namely, the tamriel map based off elder scroll: oblivion, and the middle earth map based on the lotr universe. theres also the age of realms maps, and the prison riot map (which i think may be based on a movie, not too sure though). so if those maps are ok to make, why not video game maps?

the age of realms maps and prison riot are fictional maps. Not based on movies, I don't think.

I started a Kingdom Hearts map ages ago... Andy said I would run into copyright. Where can I find out if I would run into it?

You'd have to contact the people that made the game and ask them if the map would be ok to make.

Might not be easy contacting with Japanese folk, but I'll try.

You'd need to contact both Square-Enix and Disney, as I believe they both have copyrights on different aspects of the game.

#-o

I'll go to Square Enix and see what they say, since they did the programming.

Fire in the hole to Square Enix!

I asked them if I would also need Disney's permission.

I was wondering if anyone knew just how different would you have to make a map to be able to slide out of copyright infringement?

This happened with Midkemdil. The cartographer used the exact names then got in trouble with copyright. She had to change the spelling of the names, but kept them sounding the same.

A lot of it depends on how strictly the copyright owner will pursue their property rights...
