new tatoo

Postby glide on Thu Dec 07, 2006 7:04 pm

I collected over 20 of 'em between bein' navy and ridin' a scoot. If ur serious, follow these quidelines: get something you think you'll still like when ur kid/ or new boss/future girlfriend notices it in the future. Ask y'self: will it embarrass me later? Will it offend? Will it still be relevent? Its simple man....just think, before you ink! I still treasure most of mine, and regret none of em......choose a good tat artist, with a good rep, a clean shop etc........then go for it. Good luck.

Deffinately WAIT on that idea!!! A Marine recruit is not even aloud to say Oooh Rah much less Semper Fi until they get their globe and anchor. Having that tatoo as a new recruit would set you up for a life of hell in boot camp!!!

If you're asking what Tattoo to get, then don't get one. At least not yet.
You should be SURE what you want. You should KNOW, THIS is it!
I have three tattoos and intend to get more, but have guidelines I've put in place since my first one.

1. Go to several shops and look through all the books of all the artists (books of their previous works, not books of 'flash' art). Never go somewhere and just have the first person who is available take you. Find someone who's style you like and make an appointment with them.

2. Pick out your design and then wait. Not for days; wait weeks or even months. Do you still think it's cool?

3. Don't limit your choices to the flash art they have on the walls. Search everywhere and anywhere, and then when you find somethig you like take it to the artist you've chosen and have him draw it out for you so you can see what they can make it look like. They may offer changes or suggestions. Then wait a few more weeks. A good artist will have no problem doing this.

3. SHow your design to people in different shops, say you just want a quote. Know how big you want it and where you want it. I shopped around one design and one place that had just opened gave me a rate. The next place I went (which has award winning artists) told me the size I was requesting was too small for the detail work and in years it would all blur. The first place was more than willing to do it in the small size I had requested.

The main things are find a design you'll like forever, find a reputable artist, and don't rush into anything. No offense, but will you still want to memorialize your high school football days (I'm assuming HS, sorry if I'm wrong) 15-20 or more years from now?

Ultimately it's your choice and you should do what will make you happy, but don't rush into anything, and remember; Good Tattoos are rarely cheap and cheap tattoos are rarely good
