Suggestion: "Select all" for maps in Game Finder

Postby Symmetry on Wed Dec 19, 2007 8:18 am

I suggest a *select all* button that would check all the map boxes in "Game Finder".

Why?
Because it makes it a little easier to deselect the maps that you really don't want to play (say the very big ones, or the unusual ones), as opposed to selecting all the one's you don't mind.

It should be simple to do, and seems like a quick temporary fix as more maps are added.

Search didn't turn this one up as a title, so apologies if I'm repeating something.

this has been suggested before, only they wanted to be able to click on maps that they didn't want to see (kinda similar to what you wanted). I believe it was rejected for now since it can be done manually, it just takes a little time.

Thanks for the reply- I couldn't find a thread similar in the search, but probably for the reason you stated.

I would say that this suggestion is better, and easier to implement (less confusion perhaps).

I just did an experiment looking for open games that are publicly joinable. All maps left 12 pages, but removing the two most played maps (classic and 2.1) in favour of the others removed a full 4 pages down to 8.

I don't really see this as an urgent change, just something that might be easy to put in place, and that would help people who are wary of a single kind of map. The manual option was a little annoying this time, and will be more so as more maps are added. 63 clicks reduced to 3 in the case I mentioned above.

Thanks again though, and I'll leave it at that.

I think this is a great idea. It's easy to implement...a handful of lines of coding which would take a whole five minutes at best. I don't know much about programming, but I know this would be easy to implement. and it could make some searches easier.

I recommend the greasemonkey "CC Saved Searches" - it will do this for you.

You aren't the first person to suggest a greased monkey as a solution to my problems, and I don't think you'll be the last.

Game Finder Improvement

Postby Woodruff on Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:22 am

I find that when I want to find a new game, I really don't have a map preference at all, I simply am looking for a large game that uses specific criteria as far as the cards and such go.

So what that means is I must click on every single map-type to make sure I'm not overlooking any of the new games.

Could a "select all maps" check box be added to take care of that functionality? It's really quite a pain to go through selecting every map type.

I suggested this a while ago, and was told that a few people had this idea in various forms.

The difference that having a "select all" button would make is that it would be easier to deselect maps that you don't want to play on.

Say you have four or five maps that you really can't stand, then it's easier to press select all and deselect those. Much more time consuming to select all the ones you're OK with.

Not the most urgent thing in the world, but there are a lot of new maps.

If you use the Firefox browser, get Greasemonkey and then install the Saved Searches script.

Add "select all maps" to game finder

Postby firth4eva on Fri Aug 22, 2008 12:36 pm

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • You can remove maps you don't want to find

Can't be hard can it?

Would you be un-selecting the same maps every time? If so, you can use the saved searches script, to accomplish the same thing.

It just selects all map so you can untick the ones you don't want to play/check your record on map rank

No, its a "Select All" then you go through the list and uncheck the ones you do not want.

Use the saved searches script as Timminz suggested.

For Firefox:

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=18815

For Internet Explorer:

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=54932

Check all map boxes and then bookmark the search. Save as "DEFAULT" to auto load.

This is a pain in the ass one time only.

Lol. A select all button is a great idea. I wouldn't use it...as I only select a few maps instead of unselecting a few maps. Yes saved searches will allow you to do this....damn I love that tool. sometimes I wonder why these great plugins aren't just integrated into the site. Like BOB. If I came here and played a game without bob i'd laugh at the site as it's missing some VERY important info....

Actually...i think that without BOB this place would suck.....

Great idea!

i use the map finder script, but firth's idea is easy to implement and is a logical addition to the game finder page.

I remember wanting this before i discovered the script. DO IT!!!

I'll add this to the Games Filer script if you like for now.

Can you make sure that "select all" only selects all visible maps... (And therefore deselects all non visible.)

Also - Can you have a deselect all too. (Remember that it will need to deselect hidden maps too)
