Multi's

Postby Blitzaholic on Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:25 am

If one is considered a multi or found to be one and you lose to them, can your points be restored? If not, why? They should be.
I have lost a few times in the past due to this and never got the points restored, at least not to my knowledge.

Blitz, it would crash the server. Either 1) someone would have to go back and delete every game in which the cheaters were involved. This would throw everyone's points and records out of whack. Then all points would have to be recalculated starting at game 1; or 2) someone would have to go back through every game where someone cheated and give back that many points to people, timestamped at the same time that the game ended, then points would have to be recalculated (then the process would have to start all over again, because the change in points from a prior game would affect how many points people lost in subsequent games). So, in the end the server would fry and CC would no longer exist. I think you are probably better off having lost some points that you can win back later.

To reduce workload on the server, what about games that had finished in the previous 10 days.

wow lancehoch, had no idea it was that much, if that is the case, then just leave be, i will eat those points and lose them from the cheaters in the past, no problem.

However, in the near future, if someone finds them (cheaters) currently in games now and let a mod or multi hunter know before the game ends or within a week time frame, can all games starting from today on forward occur to get points back? is this a possibility?

Blablablabla, bullshit. Whenever a site update screws things up there are no problems whatsoever deleting games. Remember the bonus bug on Classic a while ago? All the games concerned were deleted without any trouble at all. Even two months ago I was testing a map with Yeti because it broke BOB - half way through it crashed completely and after a quick PM to lack the game was deleted.

Even if it 'crashes the server' then the code simply isn't up to par and should be improved to be able to deal with deleting games ASAP.

Frop, yes, but those games were either incomplete or just finished, therefore they do not affect as many games.

Blake, if we did that, people who were affected 11 days ago would complain that we set some sort of arbitrary deadline (they would not be wrong either) and that they should get their points back as well.

Blitz, it is similar to the situation I just told Blake. People would say that this has been asked for in the past, and we should have done that when they first mentioned it.

I understand that we all hate cheaters and that they ruin a perfectly good system, but there is no perfect way to deal with this. Hopefully the detection systems will get better and people will get caught before they really have any affect on the system.

Then why do we keep getting less dedicated hunters?

Don't be silly, if they effectively kept all of the cheaters out of the door, they wouldn't be inclined to buy premium over and over again!

Dude, you are an admin. You seem to have an (sometimes uneducated) answer for everything, but when it gets too hot you bail?

I am not an admin. I am a mod. I moderate the C&A forum. The admins have red names: lack, andy, twill. And if I seem to bail, it is because I actually do not know the answer.

well, he's a mod (but still has access to the Staff forums), but, if it makes you feel better, we can call Twill in to give us a bullshit answer

Oh right, as a moderator you're not supposed to intermediate between the users and the 'admins'? You spam 'stay on topic' and 'I'm locking this one' in a multitude of threads, but you don't have to answer to anyone? I kinda dig this job where you have all kinds of powers, but no responsibility. Where do I sign up?

Well, just today I've insulted the Conqueror and an adm-, I'm sorry, moderator, masturbated twice and used the Lord's name in vain on more than one occasion. I've got a cute little kitten and a baseball bat ready if you need me to go even further.

Frop, I honestly take no offense. I am a moderator, I do not know what the admin talk about within their group, so when a question arises for which I have an answer I post it. If I don't know the answer I either do not post or I say that I don't know. If you want, I could post completely incorrect information for which there is no verification, but then you would get pissed at me for lying to you. You may think this is a relatively cushy job, but remember we as mods are volunteers.

Back to the topic at hand, does anyone have a good suggestion for dealing with the point loss to multis?

1. Find a half-dozen qualified people willing to volunteer as multi-hunters (or even just as apprentices)
2. if a multi is busted and he still has games going, lock that account out of the system so that the multi deadbeats. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

Changes have been discussed among the moderators and admins, but lack is busy working on various mod tools codings. Deleting games to restore points is something that only lack can do. With the number of multis that ARE busted, he would have to spend too much time deleting those when he needs to be working on site improvements. Putting forward suggestions that would kick a multi out of an active game or something similar would be a much more practical suggestion then restoring your points.

Lack could easily give the power to delete games to king (and the other hunters as well), as they can already ban users, why can't they refund points.

Yes, the points should be restored. Unfortunately CC is flawed to the very core and they can't refund the points as explained. If everybody had to put in 20 points, then they could easily refund them. But since the cost for you is great, and the potential win is small.....it would destroy CC to have to recalculate.
