The one thing I found out about employment is, the sterotype of the clean-shaven drone gets a job over the utter slob is a big load of crap; employers hire people on a whim, regardless of anything the applicant says, does or has done.
It sucks, but I still keep on plugin' away. Beats doing nothing and I have little better to do.
Yeah, the employers take first come, first serve; and the slobs get themselves established so it's hard for someone that just got out of the military to compete. Ex-military usually have a good work ethic, but if they are fresh off the battle field...look out! This one engineer was fresh out of Iraq and came to work for my company, he was so lost. He was still reliving all that PTS bullshit! He couldn't hack the job, so our company unfortunately had to fire him. That was sad, but he wasn't really doing his job properly at all.
When I was on the road, I saw so many homeless Vietnam vets EVERYWHERE! I am wondering if I hit the road again if they would be being replaced by Iraqi/Afghani Vets?
My brother just stayed in the Marines and made a career out of it, because he knew he couldn't work for BlockBuster and let some little piss ant punk boss him around. He did it right, but his brain is full of war bullshit and he drinks heavy to deal with it. It really scares me to see him do that and it scares his wife. One of the reasons I quit drinking was in order for him to see his little bum brother not drinking and that it should be easy for a tough Marine to quit drinking. Well, he doesn't drink as much anyway, hopefully he will quit all together.
I prayed to God that he wouldn't have to go over to that war, and so far God has answered those prayers. He came really close.
I remember I called him on Veteran's day while I was on the road in Arizona. He told me he was packing his shit to go over to Iraq, because he had just received his orders and he was leaving the next day. I told him I was going to pray to God that he didn't have to go over to fight in that bullshit! And the very next day, his commander ordered him to stay in Hawaii instead and train new recruits. That is when my brother first started to believe in God, he was an atheist before, but when I told him I was going to pray to God to keep him from going over to Iraq and it happened the very next day just before he shipped out...he started to rethink his belief system, and decided that there was something behind God.
