If there was no serious damage or injury they would likely just get a "talking to" and remanded to their parents.

Even if they did get charged, the only time it might come up is if they were entering law enforcement or a high-security clearance operation. And, they are looking for a bit more than some fireworks shenanigans.

But WHO ruined it? See, this is where personal responsibility comes in. If you have a record for something, it's YOUR fault. No one else's. No doubt, better parenting could help in many cases, but take responsibility for your own actions!

Best use of fireworks:

When your housemate is grinding away with the girl he picked up the night previous, take a full rack of firecrackers, place them in a kitchen pot, light, open door, slide pot across floor (works best on hardwood floors), hold door shut while mayhem ensues. Whether you put the lid on the pot is up to you

Many years ago, a friend of mine got arrested for setting of fireworks in inappropriate places, a week before he got married. I clubbed together with a couple of friends, and for a wedding present we bought him the biggest firework we could find.

Incidentally, in New Jersey fireworks are apparently illegal in the hands of private citizens, though I guess we could just fire guns off instead.

Well that will teach them a lesson. What is the point of coddling people? Let evolution take its course.

I have had more than a passing fancy with fireworks in my life. I have had blackcats explode in my hand, had roman candle fights with garbage can lids as shields, etc. I have injured myself, and every July 5th when I come to, I do a finger count. But this is not about fireworks/alcohol/LSD/driving fast or any other enjoyable activity.

B Whump's original question was one of personal responsibility, which technically he failed twice, once by not calling the cops on petty vandalism himself, and secondly by assisting the kids by not learning the most important lesson in one's life: "Choices have consequences". Would I have called the cops? No. If the fireworks were bothering me, I would have gone over and told the little fuckers to beat it.

If the cops came by looking, and I saw them, sure I would finger them. Choices have consequences for the little brats.

Clarify that to mean your world consists of folks don't think laws are for them .. i.e. rather arrogant and selfish individuals.

MOST people understand the the overwhelming majority of rules are in place for a reason.

Most of us learn the distinction as children:

"tattling" is when you go tell the most minor of infractions out of spite or to try and show you are "better", etc.

BUT, telling to keep someone from getting hurt, particularly when faced with someone older, bigger, stronger or just more numerous ... is not.

Call me a silly idiot, but I don't believe letting a 15 year old experience the full consequences of fireworks to be reasonable when that means losing fingers, part of a face ...etc.

NOR do I think it reasonably that my husband might have to risk his life to go and put out the fire that results. (or me, in years past, for that matter ... I worked lines on a few wildfires in CA myself)

And, I absolutely consider myself liberal..... just not stupid.

PLAYER good post.

quee, those who don't like narks are the one's doing things they shouldn't. I could live in a neighborhood of "narks" and it wouldn't bother me one bit. Why? Because I'm not breaking the law! I don''t understand the rational," I want to be able to break the law and have no consequences". Well the easiest way to not have consequences, is to not do the actions that bring them.

Here is a real life example:

One day I heard yelling outside so I went to see what was happening. As I walked down my driveway I saw two men arguing with the occasional "kick" or "punch". A woman got in between them trying to stop them from fighting, she was holding a baby (which didn't seem to bother the men as they continued to fight). I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911. Am I a "nark"?

(btw the police came and arrested the one guy who was living there, the other had left in his car)

Now tell me this: I'm a pizza delivery boy. As I deliver a pizza to a residence, I smell marijuana. I call the cops. Am I a "nark"?

I don't drink or smoke ever. Not even sure what it tastes like. And I've never touched a drug, let alone asperin.

There's a subtle difference between a domestic dispute and a couple kids with some firecrackers... or some weed.

Subtle? Are you brain dead? A small baby is in physical danger vs. some pot heads with no life getting high. [-X
