Other games

Other than CC, do you enjoy other computer strategy games? I am a big fan of the Civ series, and also Age of Empires. I recently saw Rise of Nations at Best Buy for $20...has anyone played that and how does it compare?

I've put myself on Civ-less diet for well over a year now for fear of losing any modicum of life I may have left. By far the best series in the genre ever. Am also a big fan of Total War series, particularly Rome.

Play any from the total war series, they leave the Civ series in the dust I'm afraid. Medieval, Rome and Medieval II being the best. I'm pretty much adicted.

Hmmmm, tough one. They both usurp sleep but I have greater loyalty to the Civ series. Obsessed with that series since the first one, and bar a few of the spin-off bombs, each one kept me fixated on the screen. But I do love commanding great armies and Total War got that right.

Diplomacy is the best game ever. Think of it as Risk without dice :D

I have Rise of Nations and i play it often, the style is the same as on Age of Empires (so not like Civ) only it has way more.
It goes through to this time and the future with nukes, stealths and so on and you have a wide variety of nations with each different looking buildings and u can make a lot of wonders.

personnaly i like Rise of Nations better then Age of Empires

Civ is not a strategy game. It is "spend most of your time managing you bloody pile of resources" game.

In my books, in a strategy game you spend most of the time in a battle, not choosing what to build in your numerous cities. Most of them have no renewable resources, aka Chess, Go and Reversi. Risk has renewable resource, easy to manage. Similar is Diplomacy. Out of computer games, I remember Heroes-3... This was a fun game worth bringing into new millennium. It did require some resource management but minimal, compared to any of Civ-XXX
