If I remember correctly, Jay, Gip and a few others proclaimed that if Ron Paul wasn't elected, our country would befall a horrible fate. I will have to dig up that post.

I am just curious if any of you have a date for this apocalypse yet. ;)

I don't know about Ron Paul being the second coming of Christ, but I do think that the next president will be a sacrificial lamb. I don't think that McCain or Obama can weather the coming storm. By which I mean the economy, and Iraq.

Gip keeps spouting something about June 26, which is in, what, 6, 7 days?

Whatever.

People have been claiming that it was the end days since AD 33, so I highly doubt that this is it. I'll believe it when I actually see it.

If it does happen, that means I can't turn 19 in July. :(

No kidding. Along with completely destroying our world standing. (More than Bush has, anyway) Aside from that, however, he would probably make a decent pres.

You have to be kidding! If anything Ron Paul would SAVE our economy! It will collapse and all we will be able to say is, "Shouda voted in Ron Paul". World standing? Other nations loved Ron Paul!

Cut Spending
Bring our troops home (save butt loads of $$$$$ and lives)
Smaller government intrusion in our lives.
Abolish the IRS,DHS,Federal Reserve.

I mean come on, what's NOT to like? oh yeah, the government has you believing terrorists are out to get us

You're a fool.

Hope to of been of service.

Because you say so? Oh ok, I didn't know you had it like that. Ya gotta love people who post off of emotion and zero intelligence. In the future, you may want to put some thought into your posts, or not post at all.

How ironic...

I really don't see the "storm" of either the economy or Iraq. There are storms out there, but the two you mentioned are relatively minor. Let me take one at a time.

There are two factors to the problems in the economy, the lending problem which caused the housing crisis and the price of oil. Let me take them seperately.

The housing crisis' biggest impact is the squeezing of the credit to big and small business. But whenever a door closes another one opens; business credit cards have filled in the gap where traditional short term lending used to fill in small business. This will have otehr consequences; be prepared for an ecoomic bumpy ride, but no free fall.

Oil is a problem, but oil is a product of supply, demand and speculation. As for demand, China is growing up and is actually passing industrial puberty. They just reduced their subsudies for oil, raising the price of gas at the China pump, possibly lowering demand there and therefore impacting supply. Oil went down yesterday as a result. OPEC thinks that the current demand levels are unsustainable. They may be right. The era of cheap oil/gas may be over and we may be in for another economic bumpy ride, but oil will become one factor and not the factor in inflationary worries.

Now to Iraq. Honestly, what is the obsession with Iraq? Afganistan is far worse than Iraq currently is and is the worst of all worlds in more ways than one. The enemy has a sanctuary in Pakistan and that's a nuclear power we are talking about. Both parties have expressed an eveng greater commitment there. Obama wants the troops out of Iraq only to go to Afganistan. (Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire!)

Yeah, but Afghanistan is a better justified conflict with much more multilateral support. The obsession with Iraq stems from the fact that we fucked up.

Yes, but as the old saying goes, that was then, this is now. Currently in Iraq our mission is to train and support the Iraqi troops. Actually this is slightly incorrect, our mission is to train the Iraqi commanders, who started out getting their ranks because of perks and probably knew squat about actual command. They are getting better. They are slowly taking over more and more control.

In Afganistan, on the other hand, ambushes (much like we had in Iraq a few years ago) are commonplace. Whole villages are strongholds for fleeing Taliban fighters. And the place is a festering dustbin, even with the advances in combat medicine combat conditions result in the wounded comming back with significant complications due to battle field infections.

And if the enemy retreats into Pakistan where the government is brokering deals with them then what do we do? Wait until they regroup and start the sniping and suicide bombing all over again?
