Why is it so important to spend public funds on probing Mars?

According to the latest intelligence reports, Rice still plays Texas.
We choose to probe Mars!
We choose to probe Mars!

But not at all seriously why do people blame Bush for going to war on questionable intelligence but never even once questioned Kennedy for going to the moon because two college football teams played each other. Was that faulty intelligence or what?

you know, the christians actually got it right. in a couple million years, earth will turn into a fireball. anyone unlucky enough to be on earth will long be dead, so WE HAVE TO GET TO MARS, AND EVENTUALLY, THE HECK OUT OF THIS SOLAR SYSTEM.
