Concise description:
- If I enter the game as a cook with 800 points my gain/loss at the end should be based on that 800 points.
- If I enter the game as a Major with 2100 points my gain/loss at the end should be based on that 2100 points. etc
Specifics:
I play many games at once. Currently I have 111 active games and am contemplating starting a new round of them. It frequently happens that games are 'in the bag' meaning that I have them won and am just waiting a turn or two to wrap up the extra armies to finish it off. For example in world 2.1 with I have 200 armies and 3/4 of the world but couldn't quite finish off my opponent who has 3 armies and 2 territories left. There's no possible way I could lose this game.
Ideally in terms of the CC community the best outcome would be for my opponent to take his turn quickly and then for me to finish off the game next turn. However if I am purely interested in increasing my own rank I would not in fact do that. I would wait until other games I'm playing that I'm losing finish so that my points are lower and then finish off that game so that I would get more gain. If I don't finish the game then it's very possible that my opponent left isn't a premium member and I'm actually stopping them from joining another game.
To make it clearer I'll explain with an example. Lets pretend I'm play 4 different 8 player games. All players in these games start with exactly 1000 points. In game 1 I have it wrapped up but in the other 3 I'm losing.
If I finish game 1 up I will gain 7 * (1000/1000)*20 points, or 140 points.
If I then lose game 2 I will lose (1140/1000)*20 points, or 23 points.
If I then lose game 3 I will lose (1117/1000)*20 points, or 22 points.
If I then lose game 4 I will lose (1095/1000)*20 points, or 22 points.
I will finish with 1073 points meaning that these 4 games where I went 1-3 netted me 73 points.
Now lets see the other way.
If I be a jerk and don't finish game 1 but instead lose game 2 first I lose (1000/1000)*20 points, or 20 points.
Again being a jerk and losing game 3 before finishing game 1. I lose (980/1000)*20 points, or 20 points.
Again being a jerk and losing game 4 before finishing game 1. I lose (960/1000)*20 points, 19 points.
Now I finish up game 1. I gain 7*(1000/951)*20, or 147 points.
I will finish with 1088 points meaning that these same 4 games where I went the same 1-3 netted me 88 points. Or 15 more than I would have had in the first scenario. That's a 20% increase point gain.
This is only magnified in my case as I have multiple games like this where the outcome is known but they aren't actually finished yet. I'm sure I'm not alone in this and while I don't actually 'abuse' this it wouldn't surprise me that people out there would. Simple fixing points gained and lost when you join would eliminated the temptation to just delay finish a game.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- There would be no temptation to let games continue needlessly
